Not sure if I am in the right place for my Q ...

Someone gave me a memory stick with documents (exel and word).

My AVG picks up trojan and worm viruses ... as far as I can tell, I have moved them all to the vault. Will they have any effect on my PC? Anything else I can do ?

Um, in theory, you should be save. I have AVG and Avast on my PC.
Microsoft is building an Ant-Virus (free), you can look into that.

wait a minute...you actually WANT a microsoft virus scanner?

Dr Watson is enough for me thanks

lol. There's two divisions of Microsoft. The OLD one, builds windows. The NEW one does pretty cool stuff...and they work. I don't have a clue which part is building the Ant-Virus.

I don't trust MS when it comes to firewalling and anti-virus, I think there are better products out there.

yeah running 2 AV Programs is never a good idea.....

:p Only one is constantly active. (Avast)
The other one is disabled, and that way I can use only its virus scanner from time to time when I feel my pc needs a scan.

Scan still running and keeps picking up new infections/viruses. Uggh!

I have dumped AVG in favour of Kaspersky AV because of exactly the same reason as yourself

I used my flash drive at a client and when I got back to the office AVG detected the virus and moved the infection to the vault but it kept coming back.

Installed Kaspersky AV and it killed the infection with no repeat infestations. Since then I sell Kaspersky AV to all my clients instead of offering AVG.

I actually buy a few Kaspersky AV disks from my supplier and keep them with me when visiting clients. "Sell-on-the-fly" :)

Another 2 Questions:

1. The AVG scan has finished and indicated no problems , but as I said, I keep getting notice of a threat in the form of a worm virus (worm/generic/abxv)... should I rather opt to 'heal' than to 'move to virus vault' ??

2. Also, I have deleted all e-mails with attachments received from the person who gave me the memory stick that caused the problem. Once e-mails are deleted and the deleted items folder emptied, where do these e-mails (and attachments) go ?

Thanks a lot guys !

1) Is that notice from AVG itself or just some arb. popup ?
2) to the bitbucket in the sky...
