I believe you have the Option Quad Lite, so Firmware - Version 1.5.5 (Build 17.05.05) is the one to do.

ok. well i already got version 1.5.5 on my card.
:(
but the VMC 9.3.0 compatability doc says Min. required Firmware:
GT 3G Quad Option 2.1.8

where would i get that?

Have you tried installing Version 9.3 on the XP machine and trying to connect using the card there?

no.
and i'm not going to as version 7 works there perfectly.
so i dont wanna stuff that up before i know what causes these problems.
:)
pointless havin both machines not able to connect.

will the GT Connect software from Option work here in SA?

got GT Connect 2 installed.
its registered to VodaCom-SA.
VMC v7 has no user and pass, has mobile.is.co.za as APN and no authentication.
tried these settings in GT Connect and it says connection has failed [0x8007026b]
:?

I think re-installing Vista would solve the problem, because it seems all else has failed.

It could also be that that card just does not work in Vista (it is quite old is it not?)

back to VMC then.
when i search for mobile connections, i get Vodacom 3G & GPRS, Cell C GPRS, MTN-SA 3G & GPRS.
but none of them connect.
even tried changin account type from contract to prepaid.
still nuthin.
runnin out of options here...

Have you tried not connecting from the Software and using Windows Dial-up with just the internet APN?

tell me how to use dial-up with internet APN.
and remember, this is vista.
i already started creatin new dial-up connection in network & sharing centre.
it wants phone number, user, pass...

Go to Device Manager and set the Initialisation String to AT+CGDCONT=1, "IP","internet"

Then go create a new dial-up connection with the Dial-up number as *99#

Username and Password stay blank.

er...ok.
dial-up connected with that funny #990001* whatever.
and mobile.is.co.za APN.
i had to manually change APN from internet to mobile.is.co.za in device manager and dial-up connected.
now what?

OMG!
you guys probably wont believe this.
the VMC software selected my onboard HDA modem as the default modem to use for the VMC connection with a dial up number of "ppp".
:o

after gettin the dial up to work, i jus put those settings in the VMC connection and it connected.

dial-up number: *99***1#
APN: mobile.is.co.za
left security as VMC had configured it.
left everythin else the same.

gonna give the globetrotter connect a bash and see if that works as well...

thanx for the help guys.
really appreciate it.
:)
