Some Comments to the previous posts

1. Also I set up VMC for a client recently who does profile swapping and the VMC actually disconnected when he switched users ? Although I know the new version loads requiring Administrator access.

3. The performance info is shown in a reduced displayed once connected and the VMC is sent to the taskbar. Again the issue of usage has been discussed and I still recommend external tracking systems. However it is a nice idea, althought I do think I lot of users don't use this option. What would be nice is a Sidebar plugin for the Vista Sidebar pulling stats from 4me V3G ?

4. It's under Manage Connections - Network Preference - 3G Only

I do find the new version 9.1.2 very stable however. It has yet to crash on two of my machines. I have two notebooks and swap my card between them depending what I am doing and where I am.
 
Sidebar gets my vote, would be a cool idea!

So far 9.1.2 is working well on my Vista machine.

Did you manage to resolve that problem? I'd like the VMC software to be active across profiles, without having to 1.exit VMC, 2. change profile, 3. reload VMC

Also, I notice that when I load VMC in another profile (apart from the "main" profile) the usage data is not the total of all usage, so it will be easy to forget about the usage of other profiles and overrun monthly quota.

V3G, any news of updates on VMC ver 9?

I must say, apart from the above, I'm very happy with Vista and 3G/HSDPA at the moment. Also my PC is much quicker than it was on XP Pro, the graphics are a lot nicer and the features are actually useful (for example the Snipping Tool, and no - that's not a utility for the rabbi! LOL).

VMC9.1.2 and Option Colt

Installed Vista 64Bit today with the new VMC and suprinsingly my Option Colt Datacard is working beautifully.

I can therefore confirm the the Options Colt works on Vista 64Bit with VMC 9.1.2.
 
GMR: I was Diago who was setting up profiles not me :)

I don't see how you are going to make this work unless there is some fundamental change made to the VMC software. I suspect if it was changed to run as a service which was avalible to all the profiles, then they would be able to figure out if the connection was already active and just carry on using it.
 
Any idea when the E220 will be Plug and Play with Windows Vista? I still have to use the workaround to get it working for my customers.

What workaround are you referring to? The update from the Vodacom site?

Yes, that's becoz you have in installed already. I'm refering to new customers. Each new customer i have to use the workaround just to get it working.After that there arent any complaints.

The workaround where you have to update the USB Mass Storage Device driver, add the USB composite device, so that Vista can detect the rest of the devices. then i've to manually load the drivers for those devices.

It still doesnt plug and play.

My question is just, that's software update. What difference will it make with the setup and detection process? Becoz i understand that's what the firmware upgrade was for.
 
Installer keeps starting in Vista

Hi Guys, Please help. My modem installed in Vista and is detected every time I plug it into the USB port, but with or without the modem the installation software starts when the computer is started. I have tried running startup removal programs but it is not listed as being a startup item.

What am I missing ? Thanks in advance

It updates the auto install and has the vista drivers, so you don't have to do any manual driver installations.

I do however agree that any new E220 you purchase now should have this loaded. How many people have a second machine readily available with XP on it? Yes you can go to vodacare/shop and they will update it for you, but once again the customer is inconvenienced. Vodacom should be proactive and updating them before they are sold.

If new firmware is released, all the modems in the warehouse will be flashed. Obviously the ones already shipped will not be.

Sometimes, if warranted, we might hold back shipment to first flash, with the resultant outcry of non-availability of stock.....a typical case of damned if you do, damned if you don't....:rolleyes:

So you are then really left up to the mercy of the shop you purchase the E220 from to tell you when you buy it that you will need an update? From what Iam3G is saying it does not sound like dealers are taking the initiative to go the extra mile.

I end up doing the Software and Firmware Updates only after the customers have called 155, and 155 telling them to go to their nearest Vodacare/Vodashop and have it done.

The dealers(like our shop) wont open up every new modem that comes into stock so that i can do the updates on the modems. I mean, would you want to purchase a opened modem whatever the reason may be?

Suggestion: Once the deal is complete you can offer to do the update and open it in front of the customer. When we last upgraded my SO's phone the dealer opened the box and got us to check that everything was there. Similarly I would have no problem if a dealer opened it up and offered to update the modem.

I already do this with modem purchased from our shop. I just tell the customer to rather come back a day later so that the SIM is active and then i setup the email as well.

The ones that were refered to me from 155 is from other dealers. I apollogize if i neglected to mention that.
