Apparently it has support for all cards now....WinXP and Vista.....plus even the embedded Dell 3G cards and the E220 USB modem (if you want to force 3G Only mode)....I've tested it and it works on the embedded notebooks as well. So out with Version 8 dashboard...in with version 9.

Please help

I have been through all 19 pages of this thread, and as interesting as it has been it hasnt been able to help me yet -maybe someone here can point me in the right direction.

I recently purchased an Acer laptop pre-installed with Vista. I initially used my phone as a modem to download the new firmware and VMC v9.2.1.6545 so I could get my Option Nozomi card working. When I first installed the card, I had to obviously install the drivers so I pointed it to the new VMC folder (this is after flashing the card with the new firmware update). It was able to find the following drivers which it installed:

Globetrotter 3g+
Globetrotter 3g+ smart card interface
Globetrotter 3g+ Diagnostics Interface (COM11)
Globetrotter 3g+ Application Interface (COM10)

but then it could not find the last driver - unknown device on Globetrotter 3g+. So after many attempts, I decided to try install the driver manually from the device manager - selected >Option>Globetrotter>HSDPA network card (and many others). However the VMC software cannot find the network card. I should also menion that it took 8 attemts to install he software as it got to the end and then woud roll-back the installation - on the eighth attempt though it miraculously installed without problem. Has anyone else come across this and been able to fix the problem, or does anyone know of a fix to this issue - your help would be greatly appreciated as I require this connection for work!
I went to a Vodacare shop today but they told me that nobody there coul help me so I should cal 155 - I did that and they have told me to go to my nearest Vodacare to sort it out - AARGHH!

Vista tells me that the problem is with the Globetrotter 3g+ Modem interface which I should download from the manufacturers website, so I went to the Option website, inserted my Serial Number and IMEI, only to be told that because the card was customized by Vodafone I need to contact them for further support. So in short, Vodacare refer me to 155, 155 refer me to Vodacare ad the manufacturer couldnt care whether its Vodacare or 155 but refer me to Vodacom/Vodafone regardless. I must admit, the 155 operator was one of te worst I hae ever had - and I have had my fair share - he was trying to get me to unplug the USB cable for my network card - I am still looking for this incredible USB port on my Option Nozomi card. Then he got frustrated with me when I told him it is a software problem and I dont have USB modem - he even had the nerve to ask me why I even called him then, because I must go to a Vodacare shop! V3G or anyone with a fix, please HELP!!!!

Do this...

Uninstall everything(every trace of VMC and the Data Card e.g. from Add/Remove Programs, the folders from Program Files etc and remove traces of the modem from "Phone and Modem options"). Reboot. Start a fresh installtion(dont plug in Data Card yet). After installation is done, reboot again. After reboot create new profile. This is where Windows Vista detects the device and installs the drivers.

Try it, this always works for me.

Fool me once shame you, fool me twice shame on me...

This has happened to me twice! The first time i was struggling quite a few hours with the customer. He then decided to purchase a E220... quickest solution for him.

Today however the same thing. Acer Pre-Installed with Vista, Globetrotter 3G+. I was battling again, but eventually got it working.

What you need to do is go to Device Manager, Right Click on the "Unknown Device" and select update Software Driver. Then click on "Pick driver from a list". Go down to Optiom, select "Globetrotter 3G+ Modem Interface" and then finish the installation. It should work like a charm afterwards :)

E220 and Vista

Hi ppl, I need some help please. I cant get my E220 to work on Vista, I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware and software from the vodacom site VMC 2.2.2.1. On XP it works fine, but on Vista the installing software bar just keeps on going forever, it finishes and starts again..

Anybody had this problem before? Any advice would be appreciated, or how to get the E220 to work on Vista.

Thanks

Download and Upgrade the modem to the new Huawei Mobile Partner Software(from the Huawei Website - check the "E220 New Software" Thread). After that upgrade install it and all should work well.

Make Sure to remove any other Software of the modem(VMCLite etc.)

Or if you prefer to use VMCLite you can try the workaround for Vista.

Problems with Vodacom 3G USB modem and VISTA

This modem only works on XP, I have tried it. 100% good, BUT.....
I have VISTA Business installed on my new Acer Laptop, 3 weeks old and it struggles to load the software/firmware.
Who can help with my dilemma? I redeemed the voucher that came with the Vodacom 3G USB modem, and a consultant was sent by Vodacom. He got the unit working by fiddling all over! Now after a restart it does not work. Is this a plug and play unit? I need it to be installed to plug and play!
I am Pretoria based and it would be nice if one of you could please assist me.

Download and upgrade the modem to Huawei Mobile Partner. It makes the modem Plug and Play after the upgrade. Check the "E220 New Software" thread for the link to download HMP. The file will have to download is e220-utpsb002d03sp04c03 (normal), dated 25 July 2007

Please provide step by step how to load Firmware.

I down loaded the file and unzipped it (8.57 MB), if I understand correctly this file is part of the onboard FIRMWARE.
(1)Is this true?
To load this FIRMWARE = e220-utpsb002d03sp04c03 (normal)
(2)Do I have to take the simcard out of the modem, when load the file to the modem?
(3) After the FIRMWARE upgrade, is this modem now plug and play for XP and Vista?
Thanks for your help up to now.

Its not a firmware update, its a software update(dont know if the firmware update is included in that update as it is only the dashboard that gets upgraded).

Yes its a good idea to remove the SIM as you may damage it if you leave it in during the upgrade.

I have been using Mobile Partner e220-utpsb002d03sp04c03 with Windows Xp and it work fine.

1. First un-install previous software.
2. Install Mobile Partner.
3. Run the software.
4. Select Tools, Options, Profile Manager, New, Type in vodacom in the Profile Name.
5. In the APN block select Static and enter "internet" in the block.
6. Access Number, enter *99***1#.
7. Click on Save and then Set as Default.

I have installed the software without removing the SIM.

At the moment I am using my HP Pavilion Dv9521ei Notebook with Vista and I do not see any difference between Vista or Windows XP.

It work 100% on both systems without any problems.

Install HMC dash
Step 3: Open Controle panel, open Programs and features. Now Uninstall Vodafone Mobile connect

Step 4: Restart computer

Step 5: Extract(unzip) the software in new file under Programs called: Huawei E220 to same location

Step 6: Plug in the Modem (leave the simcard in)

Step 7: Run Installation
UTPS11.002.03.04.03[E220].
This opens a window called E220 Dashboard Update Wizard(B266) – All versions
It easily goes through the license agreement, but ….starts searching Device
And stops at Device not ready.

Question why does the computer (Vista Business) not see the modem?
Please help I must get this monster going.

This means that the modem is in use by some other application or process. Or that the port the modem is using is being used by something else.

Check in Device Manager to see if there are any exclamation marks on the modem. Check to see if the modem is there. If there are or not, change the port that the modem is using(lets say COM Port 248) and reboot. Then try again.

**IN BOLD**
I think thats where your problem lies. DO NOT do the upgrade on Vista. Do it on a XP Machine.

Click on START.
Select CONTROL PANEL.
Scroll down to HARWARE AND SOUND and click on it.
Scroll down to PHONE AND MODEM and click on it.
When the PHONE AND MODEM Options open and it ask for your area code, enter your area code Eg: My erea code is 11 for Johannesburg.
Click on MODEM.
See if it display HUAWEI MOBILE CONNECT - 3G MODEM and the COM PORT to which the modem connect.
If it does appear in this window, click on it and click on REMOVE and the APPLY. Remove all of the HUAWEI MIBLE CONNCT - 3G MODEM in this window.
Remove the modem from the USB Port.
Go Back to CONTROL PANEL.
Click On NETWORK SHARING CENTRE.
Click on MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS.
In the new window remove any previous Vodacom Profiles. Mine is called Vodacom. Close the window.
Go back to CONTROL PANEL and click on PROGRAMS.
Click on UNINSTALL A PROGRAM under PROGRAMS AND FEATURES.
Find your previous software that you have installed for the modem, Mine is Mobile Partner.
Click on it and click on UNISTALL/CHANGE to uninstall the software.
Close all windows and restart your PC.
After you PC have restarted , plug in your modem.
It will install your software back on the PC.
Try to run UTPS11.002.03.04.03[E220] again and see if it will find the modem.

Make sure your E220 has Firmware version 11.110.05.00.00 and Version 2.2.2.1 of VMCLite. You should have no trouble installing it on Windows Vista.

Come to think of it, the new batches of E220's come out with that already, so you have nothing to worry about.

I did install e220 software and it overwrite my labtop cd-Rom driver

Anything i can do to fix this ?

Did already try to update driver but no luck there !
