After installing Ubuntu 9.04, I tried playing a video using VLC and noticed that the control box and video output window are separated. It is extremely annoying...

Has anyone else noticed this?

In windows there is a setting that allows you to separate or join the controls and viewing window, I have tried it in Linux but it did not work. Since then I have just use mplayer (kmplayer, totem, etc.) since it can also play all the files that VLC can.

Have not tried the latest and greatest VLC yet.

Anyone update to the 1.0.0 rc1 version? The problem is sorted out and the fullscreen media controls look very sleek and fade out after a few seconds of inactivity. Been testing yet through various file types and haven't encountered a bug yet.

Yep, installed 1.0.0 rc1 yesterday. Seems to keep crashing though. I think I'd rather stick to the separate video window :)
