Vodacom’s strange data prices

The price disparity between Vodacom's 2GB and 3GB data bundles has existed for a very long time. I remember forumites having calculated that it is better to purchase the 1GB and 2GB data bundles than one 3GB data bundle.
 
Far more confusing is why anyone would take out a Vodacom contract.
 
R700 for 10 Gigs?

Man, so glad i'm not on Vodacom anymore - I do almost 10 Gigs every day!
My bill would be around R21,000 per month on Vodacom..... and that's in-bundle.

Thank God for ADSL!
 
assuming the statement about where the customers are is true, why not push price competition in the area of the market where most volume is?

for instance if 80% of your market is sub-2GB. and the rest of the market faces the same exposure, as a business does it not make sense to fight there?

edit - i assume of course that 2GB+ packages are still relatively competitive to other providers.so you will have a large number of consumers who will think the effort of changing is not worth it for the price differential.

This makes a great deal of sense because then they know how many 2 gigabytes units they must keep in stock. If they don't price it like this then they might run into a situation where they only have 5 gigbytes units on the shelves and customers want 2 gigabyte units. Then what? Sure you can cut it with a sharp knife, but what about the off-cuts? /s

Honestly, next they'll try to convince us bytes come in different colours...

The prices for the the MyMeg 500 to MyGig 3 are sim only deals. (as per latest Vodacom Shop mag)(Deals for bigger data contracts not shown)

Considering the increase for modem is +-R30. ( Based on the difference between sim only MyGig 3 price and with a K4305 modem or R205 wifi router)

The price for MyGig 5 - 5120mb - R369 - 7.2c per mb
The price for MyGig 10 - 10240mb - R669 - 6.5c per mb

The excuse given is not valid. The strange price difference still stands.

i love it! wasn't there an article that said vodacom wants people to commit to bigger bundles? now they get punished for going more? hahahaha!
 
How a company can charge upwards of R50/GB where wholesale price is around R7/GB puzzles me. As long as they can they will sweat this and continue churning subscribers. MTN is no different in misleading consumers (the 2c/sec billing - really?). If ICASA was not that incompetent, those prices would have been challenged long time ago.

Kindly elaborate, a link to a page on Vodacom's website where these bigger bundles include modems, would be preferable.

Why is it R1 cheaper to buy 1GB+2GB data bundles versus one 3GB data bundle?
