Vodacom’s strange data prices

I'm confused, are these "24 month contracts" or "once-off bundles" ? If they are just once-off bundles, why would you throw a modem in there as an additional cost on large bundles? Surely a more sensible and accepted approach is to sell the modem as an optional extra?

Also, assuming we are talking bundles. The concept of "most popular bundle" is really a lot of fuzzy psychology going here. The pricing is actually so that it's better to buy 2 x 2GB bundles (4GB @ R200) instead of 1 x 3GB (2GB @ R169), if you remotely need more than 2GB. I know , my brain would immediately go "i get 1GB more for R30 more" . And then people wonder why the 2GB bundle is popular with it set up to be bought in multiple increments like that? Don't we just love marketing psychology ?

Anyway, it's clear, as was mentioned , the 2GB bundle is actually on a special. MTN also did this awhile back, on the exact same bundle , and their special was even more out of whack. 2GB was less than 1GB outright. So clearly Vodacom is not quite communicating this clearly and making it seems they are having a promo on ALL of their bundles, and if they are, they probably should have considered doing the 2GB promo separately.

These are 24-month contracts. All of them are available with or without a modem. The 500MB to 3GB in the table are without modems, the 5GB and 10GB are with.

As explained above the pricing model actually dictated a R119 price point for the 2G but I liked R99 more.

So prices are determined by "what you like"? That doesn't sound very professional. Why don't you "like" R149
more for the 3GB then?

I 'liked' R99 more than R119 (which it should've been). Don't you? We can always put it back to R119 and drop the 3GB to R149. We can always tell the vast majority that buy 2GB you insisted they should pay more :rolleyes:

All Mofaya promos are on TopUp. And should be as it allows you to fully control your spend.

Are we reading a different news article?

The article I am reading has the table depicted below, and even if the word "contract" were mentioned (which it is currently not), I'm sure my assertion about the 3GB data bundle being R1 more expensive than the combined prices of the 1GB and 2GB data bundles, would still be valid:

1GB+2GB costs R69+R99 = R168
3GB on its own costs R169
now R169 - R168 = R1

in conclusion, that means that a 3GB data bundle costs R1 more than the combined prices of the 1GB and 2GB data bundles.

I don't think Vodacom has woken up to a reality where market behaviour is increasingly moving towards not doing business with Vodacom.
