Vodacom’s strange data prices

What's stopping you from pricing the 2GB at R99 and the 3GB at R149?

I don't see the relevance of your question especially since I have never worked for Vodacom, but I would hazard a guess and say that the one data bundle exists on contract and a secondary data bundle added as a bolt-on.

I previously asked nicely if you could elaborate on your first post in this thread by posting a link to the relevant contract/promo/prices on Vodacom's website, that you believe the article is based on, I think it would help the discussion if you could do that one thing.

The point is you cannot load 2 contracts on the same SIM, so your sums are all out.

from reading the thread, the prices are topup 24 month contracts. so you would need 2 sim cards to achieve the R1 cheaper pricing.
 
When do these come into affect? The USSD system still has the old prices.

I spoke to 10 people I know and asked what bundle and how much they were paying.
9 Told me that they were on 24 month contracts with Data allowance between 1-2 gigs and are paying between R150-200.
And they were happy to pay that price as that is sufficient internet for them for the month.
They even boasted any data not used is carried over to the next month.
So go Figure why MTN & Vodacom are doing so well.
I did advise them of other cheaper Options :)

Education is key to success. If any of you have not seen Cell-C latest ads you can view them on YouTube.
Cell-C is educating.
Once customers are educated they will want Value.

Internet at home is still a novelty and status for a large portion of the population between 80-90%.
So R200 is a good price for 2Gigs. If only they knew how much cheaper data really is.
This is where Telkom Mobile has an advantage with LTE - if they get it right.
10 Gigs a Month for R200 - 5 Gig Peak 5 Gig Off Peak.
5 Gigs a Month for R99 - 3 Peak and 2 Off Peak.

People just dont know .............so tell one tell all.

Because there network works and have coverage all over the country. Cell C network is falling apart and if they take 10% of Vodacom subs, there network would saturate and they don't have money to grow, they sold there network off for some cash and tried grow their base, all they got were price sensative people and no real usage clients. Then they had to ask their parent company in Saudi for more money to keep afloat. The basic principle of business is to make money. CellC need to either charge more than the others to do that or try get the big business and use price war to do it. Both failed for them and all they left with is a network that is under strain and no money to invest serious resources into it.

Taken Vodacom and MTN away and you will have a sports of SA in trouble too. If Cell C make money, it will just go off back to the owners in Saudi....

I don't care if my money goes to Saudis or fat cats in Gauteng. The reality is Cell C works hundreds for me here in PE, I get faster data speeds than I did on MTN and I pay a fraction of what I used to.

Why would you want to phone with a data contract? Not going to be attractive voice rates.

And if you really do want to make the occasional call, put 50 buck in there.
