Vodacom’s strong data growth

Amazing.

Back in the day Telkom told us that there is insufficient capacity, and therefore we will always be subjected to caps and slow data streams.

Somehow, Vodacom managed to break through that capacity barrier, that obviously does not exist.

Yet another sign that Seacom's landing will have minuscule effect.

I think my B970 router will catch fire with that amount of data going through it. :)

But it is truly amazing and very impressive.
 
That's not really a lot of traffic for one of the biggest SP in the country.
 
I agree, That is not alot of data considering they have around 40 million users.
 
It would be more if you could actually connect for more than 15 minutes or at all for that matter... You need to account for all the data users throw away each month, and you'll realise how much Vodacom really makes.
 
3000TB, there was an article of a 2TB drive here the other day, only about 1800 of those drives, is that it? so if Vodacom were to store ALL of the data that they move for ALL their subscribers they will only need 1800 of those drives - not much! But then again they have those ridiculous prices per MB. I wonder how much Telkom moves?
 
I love the speeds you get on HSPA from Vodacom. This weekend I was downloading at 500kb/s !!! Thats half a MB per second :D

What I hate about Vodacom is their inferior 2G data performance and the lack of answers about why it is behind the rest. Remember, a lot of people are still using 2G.

See 1, 2 and 3 for some recent comparitive tests regarding Vodacom and 2G data performance.
 
All these numbers show is the amount of data people get ripped off with.
 
I dont want to even know or hear anything about 2G.I'm happy with 3G+,i just want faster speeds and cheaper prices.

A lot - and I mean A LOT - of people are still using 2G hardware and/or only have 2G towers in their area. It is only in a networks best interest to make sure they give the best performance possible over 2G.

Its really not that hard to do considering 2G maxes out at 23kb/s...
 
Is it just me or does the data revenue vs. data transfered come to an average of R1.79/MB?
 
lol @ article.... i have 3 sim cards, 2 phones and 1 datacard, do i count as 3 unique users? or as 1?

3000 tb x 1024 x 1024 to get mb, at say R0.40 per megabyte avg? thats about R1250Million just from the data, nvm the hardware sold or the 'unused megabytes' billed for or any call income... yet they cannot afford a decent support desk, or to upgrade all the towers to 3g....
EDIT: correction, i was being optimistic, i see they mention almost R6000milllion from data.... yet upgrading a tower is an impossible task...



that 3000tb could easily be 6000tb if they simply stopped doing things like :

or stopped having ppl with attitudes like vodacom3g to deal with their customers...

Nothing personal against him - and he has been of help at times - but he seriously needs to back off with the attitude and put more effort and focus providing us with the answers.
 
I take my hat of to him. Dealing with people aint easy, especially on forums
with the way people 'gaan tekere'.
He appears to be a middle man, so i assume he does what he can.
He obviously doesn`t make the main decisions. To me he`s like the hellopeter for vodacom.
You have some problems, if you follow the right steps and you don`t come right then you try him...
And chucking in some suggestions, some what not`s,why not`s and if not`s...

Perhaps there's no money to be made there and it isn't in their interests to 'support' it. Slow speeds means far less data going through and less purchases. If they made it more usable there would be no incentive for people to upgrade to more capable HSDPA/SUPA phones & devices - which is where the data sweet spot is.

Maybe you need to back off with your attitude a bit , the man has helped thousands , did not see him once ask anything back from you all. I would personally not bite the hand that feeds.
