Vodacom BIS excludes some WhatsApp, MXit data

8.ta FTW again and again. Not only does my BIS include most 3rd party apps, including Whatsapp and any media you send using it, 8.ta also gives me 500MB free additional data that I can use on streaming and when I use my phone as a modem.

What absolute rubbish. Thugs. What's the sense in having a BIS if you can't use it for emails and chatting? Talk about anti-competitive practices...

I've been using BB bis for 5 years now(sad to admit) but third party apps (non rim apps) were never on the bis platform. Satnav was the only other app that used BIS.
Are 3rd party apps supposed to use the BIS apn? Opera mini, weather apps, sport update apps?

Came here to say this.

+1 to that. I cancelled my Voda BIS and switched to 8ta, way better and the bonus 500MB per month included with your BIS subscription is a big win especially when using the phone as a modem. Using 8ta's R600 prepaid airtime + free BIS special makes it even more of a win.

My wife has a BB. Her R50 BIS seems to be giving her less and less.

The old story " We do not read the T&C regarding BB BIS before purchasing", these T&C are applicable across ALL NETWORKS.If these simple steps are followed the tears and pain will be prevented. We call it the BULL DUST of a BB branding and marketing. Small month to month bundles work for me.

Bashing BB is unfounded guys, we all know where the fault lies.

They're BIS service is nice (only "nice") and sometimes I wish my SG2 had it.

How do you know they route via BIS if you've got other data?

the truth is there is not value in BIS for networks

That's exactly the thing, it isn't consistent across networks. As I mentioned in a thread elsewhere on the forum, the wife's BB9700 is happily routing Whatsapp and Opera Mini through MTN's BIS. Her account is not authorised for PSD, so normal data connections simply time out.

Also, no extra charges in more than a year...

Are they allowed to do this? Does the CPA not protect the end user? As far as i know, this was not specified in my contact when i signed it.

Can anybody shed more light on this?

Ye, thats a bit scaly from vodacom's side.

BIS should include all internet services (maybe Youtube excluded.. ) but the rest should be covered..

Vodacom please wake UP!!!!

From the Whatsapp FAQ:
"Does WhatsApp work with BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)?
Yes, WhatsApp works with both BIS and BES, as long as the IT policy of your BlackBerry device will not get in the way"

Ja, i agree with that. How much data does whats up really use, while chatting....
