Vodacom boosts LTE speed

Can you give us some samples of commercial routers or others devices supporting MIMO technology ? And would they work correctly with Vodacom infrastruture ?

MIMO is a standard technology for LTE, all devices should support this. 99% of device chipsets support it.

stupid ad - i don't think ppl will get it - especially the cheesy bit at the end where the judges raise their scores.

This development is further evidence that the launch was rushed

Jannie, would you agree, the LTE launch was premature? Honestly, from the outside it looks like Mr Joosub pushed for the launch for some positive press exposure. Based on the size of the present LTE coverage and the fact that there are still basic configuration tweaks underway(SISO to MIMO), you are still in R&D/trial mode. I speak under correction but from my mini research on the web it appears MIMO has been available for a while now, even for HSPA+ networks.

From the web:
The smart antenna technology Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO ) is considered essential for LTE to maximize system capacity and provide high data rates. Both 2 transmitter x2receiver designs and 4 transmitter x 4 receiver designs are being considered. The modulation schemes on the uplink and downlink differ. The uplink will be Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-DFMA), a OFDM variant, and the downlink is OFDMA.

Yep, this should be standard. MiMO doubles LTE throughputs and actually improves the efficiency.

I agree with you, VC has simply pushed it forward to claim the first commercial LTE network prize :) Great move, but maybe a bit premature?

they could have used a racing car, they have done the dancing to death but still that would have not made the ad any better

the ad since most of voda ads have some form of dancing? I bet you thought it was a Voda diss
EDIT: lol why do I get the feeling we are talking about two different ads?

Yes, we are. :) My bad.

I've seen that ad but did not realise it went live. It's the stuttering one?

Not really,

We ran the trails nearly 2 years ago but kept on waiting for proper spectrum to go live. It's clear this is not going to happen anytime soon so we decided to refarm. Then the crucial timing was the availability of devices. These literally became available only in the last few weeks, so we timed the commercial launch with this.

Turning LTE on is really just a function of (human) resources thus the rollout is much faster than before. Think we're at about 150 as we speak, with the limiting factor fibre availability to the towers.
