Vodacom Data SMS's getting irritating, REALLY irritating

Mine is in a cellphone and also is disconnected.

but still why do we get sms's to tell us that costs are being deducted when in fact they are NOT!
They are probably hoping you will be nagged enough to TOP UP.

It's a glorified advertisement!

Have you been receiving these messages as well ?

Have you opted out of Vodacom 23 ?

Are you still receiving Vodacom 23 messages ?

They are being communicated to via pm as well.

  • I don't get Vodacom23 anymore.
  • I don't get News4u anymore.
  • I do get data bundle reminders (about 4 or 5 a day). I am going to get them stopped because nobody at Vodacom wants to acknowledge that the system is BROKEN. I can't imagine we want multiple reminders every time we wake up to tell us "4000Kb remains", which is incorrect anyway - for the entire month!!

@VodacomData: ...any chance you could make those SMS accurate in megabytes down to the minute?

...and have all other sources of usage info conform to that?

I find it ASTONISHING that each and every time I raise this particular issue it is summarily dismissed. I have even had a thread involuntarily moved thus burying my post about seven pages deep on an existing thread.
I am not one for conspiracy theories but this has me wondering...

Its by design , if you attempt to create a connection with 0 bal and 4000kbs you will receive notification.
Has something changed? I seem to have been bugged endlessly with the PPDB on my mobile phone in the last few weeks, much more so than I recall previously.

The other annoying thing was I didn't actually get a notification telling my bundle was finally depleted. It was only after checking my email on my phone and not getting the 'you have 4000kb remaining' SMS that I realized my bundle must be depleted.

Can one turn the notifications on and off on the vodacom4me website?

26/11: recharged, bought new 20Mb bundle
Oops, should have waited until the 1st of December.

Help Please!!!

Hi VodacomData.

I have the same problem as described above and have sent you PM.

This started on 19/11 and continues on a daily basis - today alone I have received 5 messages!

The sim is used in my Apple IPhone 3Gs and I still have 4.76mb of data left.
Alll the SMS's are saved if you need details.

I have even been contacted by someone from Cape Town re my complaints, but as yet no cure has been found.

No wonder Vodacom can't reduce their rates - They waste too much money on unwanted messages.

17h00: 30/11/2009: 7 sms reminders for the day so far!

Incredible... IN-EFFING-CREDIBLE I TELL YOU!

These messages are endless and appear whenever you use data.

For example if you have an app on your phone that checks your e-mail, or an anti-vurus package that checks daily for updates etc, !

If you use most of your data bundle and have, say 1/2 a meg left, you will get the same messages constantly, presumably stopping only when the bundle expires.

I have asked Vodacom to delist my number from the reminders, but as usual, this has failed to work as well.

Prepaid billing is the closets you will get to real-time billing as the billing happens on an IN platform.

Contract billing will not be real time as the billing cycle for the ticket to be generated takes time to be processed through the Geneva billing system.

but why is the billing not correct in the first place?

i don't mind if it is slightly slow but really i don't appreciate sms's at one in the morning nor sms's (that feel threatening) while i am busy on the net!

....can not purchase bundle....

ok so these sms are becoming a bit irratating...so dropped a mail to customer care @vodacom....realising tomorrow is 1 Dec, wanted to top up data - or remainder would be lost,.....now says you do not have sufficient credit available...but dear I do have....so calling 111 to get this on record....-not giving up my few megs just like that,,......

I think 40+ messages, each with the identical message telling me that I have 4000kb left is not even a whiff close to "real time".

Sounds to me like the SMS system is out of touch with the real-time billing system. If the V4me or USSD is confirming the correct amount of data remaining then the real-time billing system is working it's just the SMS system that's bust.

O/T: I don't think that buying a new bundle will extend the life of your old bundle, and buying a bundle on the 30th is a bad idea.

Morning Vodacom, and the cycle of life, I mean, data bundle.

Data Bundle Reset 2009-12-01 01:07:3 -40147968 R 0.00

I see what you mean, not a good idea....I lost 38megs of data....- took about 10 mins this morning to get someone to explain to me....the life cycle of a data bundle...WTF, Fractal is easier....why, does data not roll over like sms bundle? you buy one and it resets your 30 day window....- and not the 1/(slash)2 month calender period,oh well ...learned me lesson...

Can someone give some clarity pls....one month or two month window? Mamma, its becoming confusing again...
Your data bundle will expire at the end of the next calendar month, they call this (up to) 60 days.

e.g.
Buy on 1 November, expires 31 December
Buy on 30 November, expires 31 December
Buy on 1 December, expires on 31 January
