Vodacom explains its higher prices

Fair enough. Many people don't mind paying more for higher quality. And their numbers substantiate this

Try telling that to VC customers that use BlackBerry's...the BIS never works and it is painfully slow

VC is going down hill and fast

Patel said that Vodacom’s Internet Daily products should be seen as merely a start for the company, explaining that these products will evolve in time

when will that time be, when hell freezes over?

why not take a leaf out of Nike and "just do it"?

"Despite the fact that Vodacom is still showing strong growth in the data market, Patel said that they will continue to ensure that their pricing remain competitive, and may even go to 15c per MB like Cell C if they “have to”."

I find this statement very interesting. Shows that they realize that a time might come where they loose too many customers and will only then drop there prices. So for me it looks they are willing to milk there customers for as long as they can and take advantage of of people. They never cease to amaze me. And there is nothing competitive with there pricing as far as i can see.

Patel added that most of Vodacom’s prices are in-line with its competitors, and that people who move to Cell C or 8ta may not necessarily save money.

Is this guy for real?

So Phil ... can I call you Phil?
How much do you get paid to speak in public. It would have been better you not uttering a word. How could it be that cheaper data elsewhere "may not necessarily save money"?
I would love to see who bought 5MB of data for R5, and 20MB of data for R12 ... some stats please

So basically because of their operating costs we pay more for their data.

And on the superiority standpoint? I have had instances time after time in Pretoria AND Johannesburg where my Girlfriends iPad (on Vodacon) slugged at terrible speeds - taking 20seconds+ to load a simple site) and in exactly the same spot using an SGS2 wifi-hotspot on CellC made it click boom.

So yes, Vodacon, you may have a superior network and distribution channels, but all that means is your network is 10 times more overloaded.

Vodacom is the superior network but I still think their prices are too high. One thing though that I will never accept from Vodacom is their unethical business practises. To charge R2 a meg OOB in this day and age is simply unacceptable. Their contracts are confusing and they structure it in such a way that it is not possible to top up unless you have the top up contract which is extremely expensive. So while I love their networks, I do not appreciate their business ethics and for this reason I will not do business with them.

Is it too late to change my mampara of the week vote?

Vodacom has a 100% drop call rate here in our area, poor signal and voice quality so yes paying for a better service?

I beg to differ....

i would guess the Cell C is still making some money from the products that they offer. i would also guess that they big 3 use similar means to get access to data, though one would assume the with Vodacom's Superior network and everything they more than likely get better rates.

So Cell C = good rate with small profit & Vodacom = stupid rate with large profit.

why o why do people...

However, Patel said that there is currently no need for Vodacom to match Cell C’s 15c per MB to remain competitive.

Just wait for all those contracts to expire...
