Vodacom explains its higher prices

I actually agree with Vodacom. I've honestly given up on the other networks. No use charging me less and I get EDGE and spots of 3G here and there. With a Vodacom SIM one is far more certain of getting signal when moving around in SA.

Patel said that, despite the lower prices from Cell C and 8ta, they are not losing market share to these two companies.

This is the problem. Too many people are either 1)too scared to cancel their contract with Vodacom which they have been renewing for 10 years in some cases, 2) locked in a 24 month data contract 3)simply dont care about cheaper prices and are commited to the brand.

If people dont move, and VC and MTN don't see their market share dropping, there is no reason why MTN or VC would be interested in dropping prices.

I get EDGE in most parts of my town.

"Despite the fact that Vodacom is still showing strong growth in the data market, Patel said that they will continue to ensure that their pricing remain competitive, and may even go to 15c per MB like Cell C if they “have to”."

I find this statement very interesting. Shows that they realize that a time might come where they loose too many customers and will only then drop there prices. So for me it looks they are willing to milk there customers for as long as they can and take advantage of of people. They never cease to amaze me. And there is nothing competitive with there pricing as far as i can see.

THis may even go to 15c per MB like Cell C if they “have to”." we could but why would we

load of BS

After 10 years with MTN, and now a proudly ported Cell C customer, I can honestly say that Cell C's network is just as stable, if not more stable than MTN. I have no experience with Vodacom, but comparing network quality between Cell C and MTN = no difference.

I travel a lot to small towns and spend most of my time in Sandton and in all these areas, Cell C works like a dream.

I would say that I have better 3G signal in most areas with Cell C, than I used to have with lovely MTN.

Valid point, but them how many people move around that much in SA?

Vodacom is the superior network

I get a strong smell of Telkom monopoly in this thread, maybe cos VC & Telkom were partners after all.
VC...FAIL

Load of Donkey B@LLS!! Was this weekend in East Free State. VC only Edge and totally oversubscribed. MTN 3G and no speed issues.

I'm so glad I ditched them a few months ago!

I wonder if these companies even read our opinions here?

higher quality

lol, sounds much like WebAfrica:

My Vodacom 3G struggles in both Sunninghill and Fourways (Northern Jhb), and if I drive along Witkoppen between the two on a call, I will get dropped at some point. And you say you have a better network? Pfft.

Can't wait to port to Cell C in 2 months time.

I think it is official. I have never disrespected any other company EVER as much as Vodacom. The only thing that remains amazing is that just when you thought they cannot reach a lower point, they manage to succeed. Every time ANYONE at that company opens their mouths in the press, they just embarrass themselves even further! What a joke. They have this little untouchable attitude, we'll I have news for them, bigger companies have failed for being a lot less arrogant. Just wait, you will run yourself into the ground eventually.

Vodacom, why am I so much happier since switching to Cell C last year? :erm:

This is true. Luckily I am mostly a big city dweller.

But why?
Its only data, data users will jump ship at a drop of a hat.
Vodacom has tons more "data" services compared to the signalling Cell C raw internet access.
Keep up with the competition and when the times right beat them at their own game, they WILL come back as fast as they left.

Vodacoms become alot timid than what they were since they went red...
