Vodacom explains its higher prices

I actually agree with Vodacom. I've honestly given up on the other networks. No use charging me less and I get EDGE and spots of 3G here and there. With a Vodacom SIM one is far more certain of getting signal when moving around in SA.

And that's just it. Many of us don't even get their so called superior network reception, so way do i have to pay more.

FU Vodacom.

When I here idiots Like Dr Phil Vodacon come on AIR,

I just loose hope on what society we have reared.

I am inclined to believe that the folks at Vodacom, wait for RPM to write articles and then hurry and grab theirs Popcorns, flavours of their choice and scroll through the MyBB Forum looking at us and laughing.

Some quotes, "Look at all those minority MyBB Forum educated fools whine and moan. Do they realise we not targeting them. They should just PORT and leave us alone. We have a salary to maintain."

People should stop bitching and vote with their wallets. Move to Cell C in droves. Every time I encounter someone on Vodacom I want to ask them wtf is wrong with them. It's like voting for the ANC time and time again - make a change damnit, if only to shift market share around.

well.... vodacom has got at least one thing going for them... which, despite what their network performance or costs may be or not, makes it (at least for me) the network of choice for office: having to manage other users' modems : the Vodacom website that allows monitoring of data and airtime balance, and ability to add more data bundles online.
I have quite a few users, who are simply not able to check balance, load data etc, so kiepie has to do it :-)
Only Vodacom has the online ability for this, so until 8ta, MTN, Cell-C gives the option, VC it is for corp modems :-)

MTN foresaw this issue way back in 2001 and introduced reverse billing for corporates connecting back to the corporate lan. That way the individuals don't pay - the corporate does, and it's all managed in one account. The rest of the usage of the individual is up to them to pay. The product is offered by the ISP who manages the corporate lan. You can pick a ton of usage records off the radius server without even having to rely on the mobile operator.

Brilliant concept. I'm not sure if the product is still offered by MTN Business, IS etc.

Patel said that Vodacom’s Internet Daily products should be seen as merely a start for the company, explaining that these products will evolve in time.

lol. As if they are the new kid on the block. Vodacon has not evolved since its inception. Proof of intelligent design model??? Cell C would make Darwin proud!!

No Way

There is no way to spin this. You exploit people and you lie. My wife is on Vodacom her calls always drop. At home, THERE IS NO RECEPTION 7/10 TIMES. Too much effort to move ... face palm...

Vodacom has said that its superior network performance, extensive network coverage and strong distribution channel means that consumers can expect to pay a premium for its services.

VodaCom, you are talking ****!!!! 8ta has the best Internet speeds where I live! Vodacom's 3G cant beat my 384kbps ADSL Speed in terms of ping and download speeds!!!

Vodacom is talking ****!

Despite the fact that Vodacom is still showing strong growth in the data market, Patel said that they will continue to ensure that their pricing remain competitive, and may even go to 15c per MB like Cell C if they “have to”.

However, Patel said that there is currently no need for Vodacom to match Cell C’s 15c per MB to remain competitive.

In short the are admitting pricing at a premium because they are the dominant player in the market and should enough people move they will match the pricing to stop the bleed. For that alone it is worth porting...

VC actually has LOWER costs due to economy of scale.

Also, most consumers are strongly influenced by Brand (not price) when making mobile purchases, so of course Vodacom will continue to make sales until the momentum shifts.

Precisely, how is it the most entrenched player with the biggest customer base to share costs over is the most expensive???

Their subscriber numbers reflect that reality. People aren't moving away from them, despite their prices being higher
I think many people are in my position - I am seeing the end of my VC contract to avoid really hefty early termination penalties then moving to CellC

On another note, Cell C roams on VC, so technically they have a much larger network coverage area. Granted it is EDGE for data which is like water torture, but it beats the 8ta no go on roaming cheap prices. Interestingly VC can sell to Cell C at discounted rates, but not their actual consumers.

Superior quality? Where? Vodacom might have superior quality at their campus in Midrand but somehow the story is very different in Centurion and Pretoria. A lot of dropped calls, slow EDGE internet - yes, superior quality indeed, Vodacom could have been a state agency.

Just when I thought Cinavia was the most infuriating crap, then Vodacon takes the crown!!!

This is the problem. Too many people are either 1)too scared to cancel their contract with Vodacom which they have been renewing for 10 years in some cases, 2) locked in a 24 month data contract 3)simply dont care about cheaper prices and are commited to the brand.

If people dont move, and VC and MTN don't see their market share dropping, there is no reason why MTN or VC would be interested in dropping prices.

Also add to that, there are a lot of ordinary people are not aware of Number porting either.

leaving MTN in April 2013 when contract expires - have been telling as many people as possible about CellC offer - the masses need to be alerted to this blatant over charging by the likes of Vodacon and MTN.

At my house I get 8ta 3G with blazing fast speeds 6-8Mbps. cellc has full 3G but its not that fast. MTN 2 bars of 3G and Vodacom GPRS..... No I'm not lying. I only get vodacom GPRS and if I force 3G on my smartphone then I have 1bar signal then "searching for network" then 1bar again so its not even usable.......

WTF does it mean we pay a premium for their service..... Who do they think they are?

Call me gullible but I actually expected this article to have some really good reasons as to why Vodacom is more expensive than the rest. The very first paragraph which states "Vodacom has said that its superior network performance, extensive network coverage and strong distribution channel means that consumers can expect to pay a premium for its services." has just helped me to decide whether or not I will continue as a Vodacom customer after my contract expires in September.

I've been a Vodacom customer since December 1996 and the content of this article makes me feel as if Vodacom is trying to insult my intelligence. Well done Vodacom, I'll be moving to one of your competitors next month.

Patel added that most of Vodacom’s prices are in-line with its competitors, and that people who move to Cell C or 8ta may not necessarily save money.

Looking at my own phone, I saved my bill in half by moving to CellC and makes almost double the calls I used to. That is like almost cutting my bill in 4!

Sorry VC, but you are not competitive.
