Vodacom Fibre

So I've just spoken to Vox to get clarity on a few issues.

Their cancellation fee is insane - R2758.00
Their modems are also locked, like VC (is this a big deal? how often would you need to tinker with your modem?)
Is using your own modem instead recommended?
I've also read somewhere on the forums that Vox's ping has been really bad recently.

So im now thinking of just going with VC

Why not Cool Ideas? Much better service than VC.

CI is R1500 install fee vs VC R910 (if you cancel before 12 months then an additional R600 which is basically the same as CI - But as mentioned prior, VC's FUP will not effect me so I don't see myself cancelling within 12 months)

VC's packages are also slightly cheaper than CI - not by much but if you look after the cents...
Provided I dont cancel with VC before 12 months I would save R1200 the first year.
Is this worth it re service levels/connectivity?
As deonmoodley stated ealier - he had no issues with VC except the FUP.

Also, thinking its preferable to use the same company so they can't play the blame game

We have Frogfoot and Vodacom as the ISP and a few months back got Openserve and Afrihost. I can say that If you have any sort of problem, good luck in getting it resolved cause I feel like Vodacom just doesn't care. I would personally for the extra R1200 the year go with Cool Ideas

Found out that Vodacom fibre is live in my area, I am going to use CI as ISP. Not thrilled about them being the FNO but better then my current situation with LTE I suppose.

The savings are more substantial on the higher packages, I am on a 10/5 line so not much to save there. I prefer not to deal with Vodacom because of their bad service. It is up to you whether you want to pay more. Have a look at the Cool Ideas thread and see the level of support they offer here.

The only reason Vodacom is getting away with their prices is because there are not many alternatives in some areas. They literally bought out our whole suburb, frogfoot was going to install, suddenly they disappeared and Vodacom took over.

Go with vox 100/100 and u will be happy. I am. The ping is actually as i would expect same as cool ideas for the games i play.

Yeah, same here. My enthusiasm was some what dampered when I heard the FNO is VC

Thanks. I'll have a look tomorrow.
How's 10/5? What do you mostly use it for?
How does it handle streaming?
And who is your ISP and how would you rate them?

Same here. Was Vumatel all along (unconfirmed officially) and next thing I hear it's VC.

Been very good so far. Usually get 12/6 on my line. I use it for gaming, streaming, downloading and working form home. Using MS teams for work meetings, Netflix in HD, etc. No streaming issues, even watching DSTV Now when their servers work. I am with Cool Ideas and they are great. Having high level support on MyBB really helps. They helped Vodacom set up their network after my line was installed since VC hadn't set it up correctly.

Thanks for your input.
I am seriously thinking of going with CI, worth paying a little extra for good service and support.
I see the modem they supply seems to be a bottom of the range (haven't looked at the specs, just judging from the price). I won't have any issues using my own modem right?

It does the job, has 2,4 and 5 GHz wifi. But no fancy features. You are free to use your own router as well (which VC does not allow).

The map has not been updated yet but they started trenching on the corner of Mare and Strydom street heidelberg this morning. They are also trenching on the corner of Mare and Marais street

Just as an update I placed an order with Cool Ideas, now waiting for Vodacom to contact me and do the installation.
