Vodacom Fibre

I have heard that Vodacom fibre is now available in one of the suburbs in my little town. What will be the easiest way to find out if they will be covering other suburbs or not?

Hey bud. Vodacom is planning on trenching here in Heidelberg Central by beginning August. What suburb do you stay in? I know Jordaan Park they are busy digging and orders are open with "2 week waiting period".
 
I am checking the map every couple of days for updates. Jordaan park seems to be about 60% - 70% done. I have friends that stay in rensburg area. Really hope they plan to cover that entire area. Only option at the moment is very expensive wireless

Vodacom fibre isnt exactly cheap either to be honest hey xD
 
Vodacom is in the process of adding additional ISPs to their network. They have been "in the process" for many years so don't expect anything to soon

The pricing is very expensive if you compare it to other fibre providers but if I compare it to the current price of my 20mbps VDSL connection it's not that bad

Im with Vanillatech. So prices are more or less the same. But wireless is really ruining my gaming experience. So fibre is definitely worth it for me.
 
Vodacom just bought the fibre network in my neighbourhood and are taking orders.
I believe they only open access after 6 months so for now I don't have much of a choice wrt selecting an ISP.
Did a quick comparison with other ISP's on the VC network and VC was the second cheapest - only beaten by iclix by about R50 per package. So not a deal breaker.

VC are offering month to month, 12 months and 24 months as per the website.
Month to month - R910 installation fee
12 months - Free install
24 months - Free install + 3 months free

I'm leaning towards going with month to month and paying the R910 install fee.

Thoughts/tips?
 
I paid the R910 and when canceling after 11 months they wanted me to pay in about R600 more to cancel. This was on month to month. Cancelation after 12 months required no pay in. Also supersonic is the cheapest on vodacom fibre, they have no fup.
 
On the Vodacom network you can use Cool Ideas or Accelerit as ISP. As has been mentioned, the "free" router Vodacom gives you is not free, they lease it over 12 months. Thus the cancellation penalty. Also be aware of the FUP on Vodacom uncapped, where they throttle you to 2 Mbps. In my area at least there was no waiting period. I signed up with CI while they were still trenching other parts of the neighborhood.

The pricing is determined by the Vodacom line rental, the ISP portion is a small part on top of that, thus other ISP's cannot be much cheaper than Vodacom. Nevermind that Vodacom have dropped their prices without passing the lower prices on to other ISP's.

So I should maybe consider taking out a 12 month contract instead.
May I ask why did you decide to cancel after 11 months?
How was your experience with VC as an ISP?

What is the FUP like?
According to CI there's no fibre available in my area yet, so I assume VC had not opened access yet
