Vodacom going red?

But why, it has been the same for years and years

They would never.... Way way to risky now especially with the saturation in the industry. I think Vodafone will try and push for the new rebranding before 2010. I hope Vodacom doesnt do it.

Their rank as the 2nd best brand in the country is way to important to give up. Especially for a service provider to be ranked so high is an accomplishment on its own, and to be honest Coke is just way to big around the world to go up against them, Vodacoms number 1... anything stupid now will just be suicidal.

My opinion ofcourse, but If they go red... their mistake will be one for the marketing textbooks on how things can go wrong.

I'm not really suprised. Vodafone is red and if they buy Telkom out, why would they want to stick to Telkom's colours? It looks terrible in any case.

Yes but Cell C is red/white/black... Would be really stupid, maybe give it a red border ;)

As I posted on the subject before, logically it would make sense to bring the two brands closer, but the challenge is how to do it with two such very strong brands.

Although I'm not aware of any colour change for the Vodacom brand, it kinda makes sense that some could speculate that this might be a possible step to bridge the gap between Vodacom and Vodafone with their respective colours.

But, again, there are no plans on the table and (as I posted before) if someone here come up with the solution, it might be well appreciated (;)).

@JK8, Vodacom's brand is indeed extremely strong in SA but Vodafone ranks 11th WOLDWIDE, so (as the CEO said when this was discussed the other day, BTW, did you attend the announcement?, the branding was discussed there.) it's one of those postive dilemmas.

I missed it, but watched the broadcast.
I tend to not to make up my own mind on certain things, sometimes they dont say too much for obvious reasons.... my opinion on the announcement is it was a calming session not to alarm anyone...
There will be changes, alot of them. But we all saw it right?

But regardless of operation changes.
The branding is and will be the most important imo. I think branding brought the company to where it is today, Voda owns the colour blue in SA.
I have no doubt they will try their best to keep up their name and brand, its just that marketing is a 50/50 gamble. Vodafone is a worldwide brand and can be good for the company. They will go red, but hopefully for the right reasons:p

Vodacom's also in Mozambique - whenever you see blue, you'll know it's Vodacom.

Will be interesting to see how they'll manage the switchover tho...

Oh please NO!

1) Red is disgusting
2) Both Cell C and Virgin Mobile use red and white in their logos. Now we'll have 3 of the 4 networks with red logos
3) It's a well-established brand. Changing the logo for the sake of changing it would be stupid
4) People associate Vodacom with blue. It would simply cause confusion

Here's my attempt! :p

That actually looks pretty good! Send it to Vodacom :P And yeah I agree with the above posts. Changing it to red and white would be disgusting. If they HAVE to use red and white, throw in the blue as well.

Fank yew, fank yew! I wood laik to fank my mudder and my fudder...

I'll take R1,000,000.00 for the idea! (and hope Vodacom and Vodafone don't sue me for screwing with their trademarks!) :D

maybe it's a gentleman's agreement amongst the mobile networks: "let's all use very loud colors!"...

Now this is going to be interesting.

Noted that when people see blue and green they think Vodacom, but Telkom also comes to mind. The marketing department is going to have to pull off some miracles to change the consumers perception of the brand and inform the public that arent aware of the acquisition of shares.

Telkom's infuence on the Vodacom logo was an expensive mistake to begin with, which unfortunately Vodafone is going to have to deal with. I think getting rid of the green in the logo would be a good start.

How about keeping the colours, droping the spiral motive and just replacing that with the drop motive? Seems simple enough to me...think blue and green go together like stroh and tequila to be honest (normally ends with a street pizza being born), and whould personally not mind the transition to red and black..another alternative idea is maybe using more black with red highlights...I'f u guys want I'll create a mockup of what I mean
