Vodacom LTE data contract sale

*sigh, pinches brow*

Vodacom, you can give us a 100bajeeleon connection speed account, BUT if it's on a 3gig or whatever limit, we will use that data limit in about 30 seconds flat.

About 16 years ago (used to work at an ISP) we regularly cried to Telkom execs, begging them to sell ISDN connection for a decent monthly flat rate with no caps. Possibly even add free voice calls or voice call bundles. Guess what their reply was?

Fast forward to today and I see exactly the same thing happening. If the carriers had implemented the obvious solution, where would South Africa be today?
Sickens me the ineptitude, greed and downright stupidity.

Contract. No thanks.

Especially if it is actually with Alcatel, they are terrible and unethical. They managed to lie to my mother and sign her up to a 24 month contract a while back without her knowing. She thought she had won a "free" mobile phone. Talk about a tough process to make them take the phone back and cancel the contract.

Jannie can you clear up if VC SP is offering the contract or Alcatel as the retailer?

OOB is dangerous. I had a 24 month contract with Vodacom back in 2008. One of those 1GB for R350 per month ones. I went OOB in 2 of those 24 months which cost R1800 and R1500. Total price I paid over the 24 months was R350 x 22 + R1800 + R1500 = R7700 + R3300.

i.e. almost half of the cost over 24 months was for OOB charges for just two months. This was for only a few hundred MB OOB at R2 per MB.

Looking back at the calc makes me sad. I spent R11000 for just over 24GB. wtf... Now I get 20GB for R300 from 8ta.
