Vodacom makes HSUPA free

This is certainly good news even though it was expected. I certainly hope scrapping the fee for 3.6 Mbps HSDPA will follow.

Now to see who is first with price cuts ;)

I wonder when this will become available, because I see that my profile still connects at 384 UPA even though I have a Huawei E272 which is capable of HSDPA/UPA.

Maybe I should go and have a look at my Vodacom4Me profile and see whether it can be activated from there?

It should already be available.

Connect with MDMA (ginggs' dash) and look at what profile it says you're on. Should be 1408 in the uplink.

What speeds do you see on http://speed.vodacom.co.za?

Hi All,

Are you guys sure we don't have to activate this service somewhere because I still don't see an improvement in upload speed. 360kbps max.

I'm on a 4U prepaid package using PPDB.

Cheers

Um, is it just me or is this rather insignificant? What do you actually use HSUPA for? And how many people use it?

Don't think it's earth shattering but remember; any web transaction has an downlink and uplink component to it and the faster either goes, the better your experience.

Especially if you do file uploads, send lots of mail (SPAM?), host a server or use P2P, the faster uplink can make a big difference.

So for those that need faster uplink, a 3-fold increase in throughput is very desirable. If you're just a regular browser, probably not so much.

But, in general, faster is always better!

I use it/need it for remote control of office pc, and file transfer, when not at the office... of course for me to download faster on laptop, pc at office needs to upload faster.
Faster upload also needed for video conference.... (use polycom pvx), fast download is only half of the process

Ah ok. :) Good news for some I suppose.

I hope we get some nicer bandwidth price related news though.
I'm really needing a bigger bandwidth solution and would prefer to stay with my current HSDPA prepaid card.

Thanks V3G. When do you reckon those costs will be waivered? I did activate the 3.6 downlink yesterday and damn I reached speeds of 375kb per second. I did de-activate it today, but will I be charged for it? LOL.

I just threw R50 down the toilet. Had an extra R80 after my bundle purchase and decided to give it another go... give 'em anotha chance

The HSUPA is faster - but it's free anyway. so I paid R50 for an almost zero percent speed increase......

what gives?

bugger that - I don't care if vodacom make "3.6" free anymore. there is no spoon.
