Boksburg Area, on internet APN

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 11.344 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 359.7 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 44.1 (kiloBytes/second)

Your line speed is approximately 295 Kbps or 36.2 kBytes/sec

Hi guys

I can not even open the Telkom speed test page. Yesterday I could partly open it (just the top banner), but today nothing. Currently I only use this connection for testing 3G, so the results will not be too pretty :D

Regards,

RPM

I do beleive Vodacom is handeling this matter extremely well. Acknowledging the problem is 50% of the resolution and by keeping the public informed lets us know that action is being taken. Good work V3G!!!

Maybe the Engineering guys should keep on fixing stuff....

I just got this result from Telkom, tested from Cape Town:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 8.362 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 487.9 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 59.8 (kiloBytes/second)

Telkom Speed Test, three tries with different results, so I don't think this is useful:

* Download time: 16.974 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 240.4 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 29.5 (kiloBytes/second)

* Download time: 7.991 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 510.6 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 62.6 (kiloBytes/second)

* Download time: 26.338 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 154.9 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 19 (kiloBytes/second)

FTP upload to our FTP server in the US: 3 KB/s <--- *** This is what matters to me! *** To slow, need minimum 7 KB/s.

Ouch, did I just waste almost 2 MB of my scarse 1000 MB (or is that 1024 MB?).

I think it will be best we all wait for V3G to make it official before popping the champagne..... we dont wanna count our chickens before they hatch... :)

I know this is slow compared to 3G but I thought let me also put some info in this thread until I can test at home on 3G tonight. ;-)

Interesting that the donwload speeds on some post exceed the theoretical RF limit of 384 kbps. This due to compression?

Tested in Sasolburg on GPRS:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 78.503 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 52 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 6.4 (kiloBytes/second)

Very similar to what I'm used to.

Vodacom3G, The million dollar question remains unanswered...so what went wrong?
