SETI vs. Vodacom

For years SETI have been searching for intelligent life beyond our solar system. This morning I spent an hour trying to find intelligent life at 111 or 155.

Seems the PPDB Beta is still broken ....... so in short I would love to complain about slow speeds as getting access to the network seems a greater problem.

OK seems to be working, was able to buy PPDB via MyMeg sms ..... or maybe it was the fact that I kept on sending the MyGig message every 2-minutes.

Can't say anything about V4Me or *111#.

My deduction now is that when it "breaks", you then have to give it an hour or so before it "fixes" itself, which was the case with me today and last night.
If this is a trend, then there should another "breakage" sometime tonight. :(

VC 3G in Bellville CT

Tested out MTN and VC on prepaid sims to see which one would be the fastest - VC beat MTN hands down (75 vs 25 kB/s download). So pretty confidently I buy a 1G databundle - even with a good signal (UMTS blue light blinks all the time - Globetrotter GT Max Data Card) I frequently can't connect (it says connected, but nothing happens when looking at data flow) - than after disconnecting/connecting 3/4/5/6 times it works. Also disconnecting from time to time. Not reliable and not stable - anyone have long term experience with MTN in the Northern Suburbs (Oude Westhof)?
Cheers
Pagel

PS. To proof the point I got disconnected in the time it took to type this.

i USE TO BE WITH VIRGIN DATA,I think i am regretting bying ppdb from vodacom.
there was a problem purchasing my ppdb, but a techie guy sorted it out,wow they even phoned me twice in one day to ask about my prob and if it was fixed.
phew..

Now here is the problem i have, never had it with virgin(ag maybe about 80 times with virgin...I cant count)

When i connect with my phone (usin d500 class 10 gprs phone)via usb cable,I seem to not recieve data packets,It stuck on 255bytes recieve....sending works fine .

Now i have to disconnect many times and reconnect to make the connection right(send and recieve works).
this is totally k@K as sometimes i try *99# dial out and it seems to be stable 2/10 connections.
vodacom whats up with your network,I AM FRUSTRATED AT THIS,PPPPLEASE FIX THE DAMN CONNETION PLEASE.

same problem by me. stuck on282 bytes. got 500mb prepaid today and cannot use it.
back on vm

Somethings up tonight. I am on contract and could only connect at the 4th try. Then thought I'd to a test and could only connect at the 17th try. The other times I got "ppp link control protocol was terminated" errors.

As I predicted it "broke" again this evening only this time it was both
my PP and contract connections. The contract came back up at about 21h20
and the PP at about 22h00. <sigh>

PS: There's no smily to show despondency.

What is to be done,..

I have started Harassing the Customer Care line!!
if we just email and call all day all week,... well thats my initial take on it,..

Someone should contact the newspapers regards as well,.. this would be good,.. the news needs to be spread,...! this is a Monopolist scam,.. and only through some sort of action will we be able to change the status quo!!

So what ideas guys!?

Harassing customer care, done that doesn't work,,,,where there's no sense there's no feeling.

Ideas ....well I believe the best option is to pay the rest of your contract off,,,so they cant blacklist you. Then take them to the small claims court for the amount you paid,,,only a couple of forms,,,AND THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SEND THEIR ATTORNEYS TO THE HEARING,,,,SO YOU GET THE ADDED BENEFIT OF SEEING A VODACOM EMPLOYEE GET A GOOD TONGUE LASHING FROM THE JUDGE.

You fill in a simple form,,,pay a R50 duty stamp,,,,and that gets their asses summoned to court.

If enough of us try that, they might take notice,

I am going to get the forms, and see if I can set up a web page, showing how to get out of VodaHell

no words. good idea

Here's my conspiracy theory regarding the unreliable service at present:

VC being the most wide spread, fast and cheapest mobile broadband provider in SA is currently being inundated with Prepaid subscriptions
causing a huge load on their network, which it cannot deal with.
So contract subscribers get preference and the prepayers "fight" over the scraps ie connectivity.

Sounds like a viable explanation, but it be rubbished by V3G. The problem is that one will rarely know the real reason why things happen.

Just wondering why my connection magically improved after 6pm ?

I wonder how the per weekly new take ups of PPDBs and data contracts looked before 1st April and after? Love to know. VCs generous reductions HAVE to have had some impact, surely?

Can it be load balancing? They have a procedure in place that's calculates how much throughput you've "used up" and then they cut your connection and allow another prepaid user access who's "served" their time offline?

Seriously? (Sorry if I'm being stupid here) Do Vodacom seriously do this? Do the "terms & conditions" you agree to (whether on contract or pre-paid) when signing up with Vodacom allow for this?
