Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Slow jam in the key of Em (with overdrive)

My internet is really slow,
Surfing the web is so mellow.

Sub standard speeds,
below my needs.

Erratic pings and unexplainable timeouts,
trace-routes reaching frantically out.

2Gbyte of hard earned pain,
a threshold I always seem to obtain.

Squid proxy and Perl ad buster,
don’t do much to this tarnished luster.

Frantic router reloads,
unexplained connection woes.

You tube is a place I fear to tread,
flash downloads in slideshow dread.

Economies of scale make me nervous,
a priority above customer service.

Wimax seems to be so great,
I hope it rescues me from my painful fate.

It’s a miracle I’m able to make this post,
my effort no doubt without no clout.

Sad but true..

phoned 155 this morning about the problems and they checked all the settings. the lady told me that there is no problem and that nobody is complaining about it. they logged a fault and was promised a sms.
so it looks like it is just me that battle to connect.

Its not just u buddy. My internet on my PPDB is frustrating 2 use so i'm not gonna upgrade unless its sorted out. My bundle expires on 11may. It's been a horrible experience having to connect 10 times before it actually works. Vodacom don't seem to care so i'm going elsewhere and i'm sure many other data users feel the same.

my intenet seems to be running very well with exceptions of getting very strange "sms's" and "delivery reports" and lets of course not forget missing data and airtime

Be very lucky your data prices are cheaper

Connection problems

I have been battling to connect to the net now for the last 2 weeks. It takes up to 10 tries to connect and use the net. It normally stops at 282bytes.
I tried vodacom but no luck. Who else have this problem?
I am on topup 135 500mb bundle. Port elizabeth

:(

This thread is to get feedback from those of you who are seeing extremely slow (to no) down-link speed. This seems to come and go.

Typically your download will drop right down to zero, or very close but you'll have a good signal and won't get disconnected.

If you do see these symptoms, please post the following info.

- Your area (Pta - Mooikloof, for example)
- Your type of modem (Huawei E220, etc.)
- The modem's EMEI - (35182701019544, for example)
- The modem's firmware revision.
- apn you're on.

Also, if you can, while still connected, do a ping -t smtp.vodacom.co.za and see if you get a response. Then do a ping -t -l 500 smtp.vodacom.co.za and then a ping -t -l 1000 smtp.vodacom.co.za.

(I'm trying to see if you see different symptoms with larger packet sizes)

If you're seeing different symptoms, please give the above details with a full description of what you see/experience.

Beri, are you not talking to the local guys already? Regarding your EDGE phone issues?

Did you mention to them your problems?

they are working on my v360v now for about 6 weeks now. that was a problem with edge.
I am using a lg now. and like i said battle to connect.
if you phone Hugo at vodacom he will tell you what problems he got with the phone and staff at vodashop.
it would be nice connect the first time and to stay connected.
thanks for the help

Please help Vodacom 3G,

I live within a kilometre of Vodaworld yet have to contend with a horribly slow connection. Pages take up to 10 minutes to download, or the connection just cuts out completely.

However, the connection is just fine in the Sandton area...

Area: within spitting distance of Vodaworld, Midrand
Modem:E220 HSDPA USB modem
IMEI:355083011140024
Firmware version: 11.110.01.03.00*Huawei*E220.

Thank you

@Vodacom3g: Please explain to me the current situation with PPDB. I have a prepaid number with a 512mb bundle, a contract number and my brother has a prepaid number without a bundle. Please explain to me why i have to try several times to connect when using my PPDB number, whereas my contract and brothers normal prepaid number works flawlessly everytime. I've experienced this problem for more than half the duration of my bundle. Over two weeks!! I think vodacom should've atleast had the curtosy to sms their subscribers and let them know that it is being worked on. Currently i have my doubts so i will not upgrade my bundle on the 11th May when it expires.

Yes, I know about your handset issues. What I meant was if you mention your signal issues to Hugo, he's the right guy to sort it.

Speed - Yzerfontein

I am again having problems with speed... but now restricted to the evening between approximately 17:00 and midnight.

I connect to the Yzerfontein Reservior tower with EDGE and get close to full EDGE speed during the early morning and day but this deteriorates in the evening and I dont ever get better than 70kbps down and 13kbps up during this time

I know that new towers have been erected in the general area and that this caused a temporary problem but the new towers have been operational for more than a week now. If there is a capacity problem in the evening then surely the towers should be suitably provisioned for this evening peak.

They normally are, I know they've been awaiting extra capacity for your towers. Sounds like you're seeing the voice call peak periods which would make sense since your data is on 2G.

I know the guys did something quick to try and sort you. Will ask their longer term plans. But I'm pretty sure the answer will be 'awaiting capacity' from our friendly provider.

Blarg..

Getting unbelievably crappy latency and throughput tonight from the Fourways area - anyone else experiencing this?
