Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

this is not normal to have up load speeds like this on HSDPA((what`s going on)))

this sucks my 3g speeds are slow since yesterday,I mean i pay R400 a month for data that has a 30 day limit and i have to contend with this.I even uninstalled avg as i thought it was the problem but now i see most is getting errors and timeouts

Just called 155 and they insisted going through their troubleshooting, clearing IE cache etc.... lol, i don't use IE but w/e. They had to "call someone" and then called me back saying that only one speed related fault is currently logged, but they logged it for me and gave me the ref number. Was difficult to get them to understand that my problem is not the download/upload speed but the high latency(35%+ packet loss).

I think there's a huge fugging problem on Vodacom's HSDPA network.

It's so.....slow.

And here's the REALLY funny bit : I updated to the 7.2Mbps firmware for my E220 modem. After I got this horrible performance, I thought it might be my firmware and 'downgraded' to 3.6Mbps firmware again. Argghhhh!!! :p

Yeah it has got really really slow, to the point where browsing, FTP'ing, etc has become pointless.

I was wondering how I could go about updating the E220 modem firmware to the new 7.2mbps firmware on a mac? Is it possible?

Let's hope Vodacom sort these issues out asap :(

Just received a call from data support. They confirmed that there was a problem in the Western Cape that was resolved late last night/early this morning.

I will only be able to test again this evening.

It looks like it has filtered though to us now. Will send customer care an email.

edit: After having problems for hours and posting this on dialup, everything is working

same, testing now. they called it "congestion at the towers" yarite.

Still looks like there is something wrong to me. Ran 3 consecutive speed tests:
Download Speed: 1253 kbps (156.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 155 kbps (19.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 1059 kbps (132.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 192 kbps (24 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 1265 kbps (158.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 91 kbps (11.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Tonight I connected at about 20:40, DNS not resolving and couldn't ping DNS servers. I disconnected and reconnected and DNS was working.
I could go to mybroadband, but when I tried facebook I got one of these (slightly different to last time):
Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: ""
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

At about 21:30 I was losing half the packets trying to ping the DNS server:

My throughput died at 21:20. Router indicated that I was still connected, but I could not resolve anything or ping anything. Disconnected and reconnected at 21:35 and I was able to get back online.

I don't normally post here but I'm surprised nobody else experienced the problems I did tonight. I tried logging on from about 7:30pm, with 2 diff devices/modems, 2 diff vodacom sim cards, both of which would take forever to 'authenticate' and there would be no throughput, despite reconnecting about a hundred times.

I contacted one friend who is in Sasolburg (I am in Northcliff) whom was also unable to use the net on his phone with vodacom.

I also tried the call centre to hear what's going on, a call lasting 1 hour and 18 seconds with that CRAP music later, just simply got cut off. I don't normally let it hold that long but I just put it on speaker phone and got in bed and waited to see whether they'd answer or the call would drop before I eventually dozed off.

vodacom3g - wtf???? these ppl don't even bother putting a message in when you call to say what is wrong, they don't bother answering your call, and they won't ever give 2 ticks about the time you wasted sitting on the phone THAT long only to get cut off.

I sincerely HATE vodacom which has gone dead ito internet 3 times already in the last 2 months now, CANNOT WAIT to port away, hopefully to someone more stable with better customer service delivery..

Sorry - needed to rant.
