Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

As soon as I find a decent phone on MTN Anytime 200, I'm moving from vodacom.

v3g is an awesome rep but their network is DEAD at night. No thanks.

Naughty Vodacom

I wish my Upload and Download speed was this good. I'm in Durban North suburbs and my download speed is 200 kbps, upload speed 70 kbps, ping 250 - 546 and sometimes my download speed drops too 0 kbps. This is usually about the time I feel like jumping on my vodafone 3G modem, but I haven't done that yet so I can keep posting here until all hope fails :)

Yesterday was a sad sad day for 3G in Cape Town. Doing banking payments as I type just in case. Does anyone know the root cause?

Well, the banana leaves that they plugged the hole with have fallen out again:
Speedtest.net:

Download: 366kb/s
Upload: 358 kb/s
Ping 161 ms

On 3.6 HSDPA

Yet another day of broken links, bad connections, continuously reloading web pages, unsent e-mails etc etc...........

This thread was started on "15-03-2007, 01:00 AM", which is much closer to being 2 years old.

I'd be very surprised if a 'problems' thread is not the biggest one in a forum such as this.

Firstly we put all the problems into one thread, so new titles aren't created all the time (mostly at least).
Secondly, it's logical to post about problems, you want to know if others are seeing the same, possible resolutions, etc.
Thirdly, when something works as intended, you're not really going to post about it. (Every morning when your car start, you don't post it. But the one time it does not, you might very well.)

Did you PM me your details as requested? Can't seem to find it.

Vodacom3G, do you have any details on what caused all the problems in the
Western Cape this week?

I think we all would love to know.

Thanks V3g, after the PM, one of the VC technical chaps called me almost within the hour and we are dealing with the problem. They indicated that there is / was indeed a problem with the tower and I have undertaken to do some speed and other tests for them over the weekend, once they have sent me an e-mail with the requirements.

The problem is still not completely solved as it comes and goes, but at least someone is aware and is working on it so once again, thank you very much.

Actually have not asked yet, will do.

I think it was specific to pre-paid, and only in the Cape, so maybe a back-end system in the PP architecture. Or a network route to it.

Still experienced problems with pre-paid on 25 Jan, from about 13:30. Bellville area.

Even in Worcester yesterday was a pain.

I did notice that 3G reception in Worcester has gone down from 4/5 bars down to max 2 bars recently ( about 2 months ago ), frequent disconnects but this is caused by the switch between 3G and EDGE due to the poor signal.

V3G are you aware of any issues in the Worcester area?

Anyway, im back in CPT town and all is back to normal.
