Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Okay ... the network is still vanishing at random intervals.

Are they done with the towers yet ... or am I experiencing some other kind of trouble?

Things appear stable my side this evening. Possibly you have a localised problem. Either call 155 and log a fault or see if v3g has something to add.

No, I think we need to give it another day. The new towers are all up and running but the guys are busy optimizing them. I saw today if I attach to Panorama I get crappy throughput but Bothasig was fine.

I actually got around 2.8Mb/s from Bothasig today. Best ever for me in this area.

I suspect shadowfox is also still seeing the effects of all of this.

The Alcatel boys assured me they're busy with the last tweaks and should have it done before the weekend.

Okay, no probs ... I've logged a call with 155 anyways - I'll see what they say when they get back to me today.

How do I know which tower I connect to?

Not so easy unfortunately. The 3G towers don't broadcast cell-id's. You need special software to see something called a scrambling code that can be used to determine your tower.

What is your speed like at the moment?

Difficult to say. I'm in Cape Town during the day - and the results I get between Town and Bothasig have huge gaps between them.

I was still sitting with constant instances of no network coverage last night, and it would happen every 20 - 30 minutes ... last for about 1 - 2 minutes - and then HDSPA would pop back up.

Even so, the signal definitely fluctuated a lot (the light on my modem was switching between light-blue and dark-blue the whole time - it's usually constantly on light-blue).

Same old, same old....

{Taken almost an hour to post this thread}

Logged a call with 155

No 3G available (only 3G roaming). Only GPRS (which is virtually non-existent in terms of through-put).

Got a call early this morning (before I connected, and before I logged today's call) stating that there is nothing wrong with the tower; however there may be a signal problem and I have to pay up R1000 for an aerial to improve reception, even though the tower is 200m from my house....

Pass me the details as per my sig.

Just got a call from support now ... for some random reason my modem keeps connecting to the 2G part of the tower (or something like that) even though in my dash its set to 3G only.

They said they'll get back to me ... but they're being a lot more helpful than the last time I tried to log a call (a few months back). Colour me impressed :)

Details Request

Pass me the details as per my sig.

I sent the details at your request last week. Have had correspondence from the local Voda guys; hence the call early this am from voda re the tower.

3G (HSDPA) is now back with disconnects.

EDIT:
Constant disconnects. Reconnecting on GPRS with no through-put. If 3G connection is made it is short-lived....
Received a phone call from customer care to say they are sending (yet another) a person to the tower to check. Could hardly hear the person on my (new) contract phone, even though I had full bars.....

Ok, so the work on our towers should technically be finished now - I'm still losing the network on a regular basis, and its starting to annoy the crap out of me.

I can't do downloads, uploads, or gaming quite simply because the frigging network keeps falling out from underneath me. What the hell is going on in the Bothasig area?

There's a definite fault on the Panorama tower that's affecting us. I've been chatting to the guys working on it, all weekend.

But pass me all your details as per my sig and let the guys check if there's not something else affecting you.
