Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Touch wood, things have been stable my end tonight. Looks like the tower swapping has stopped and I won :p

I thought you had a mini site in your house (or is that top secret?). So if they were doing upgrades then it might not be as seamless as hoped or there is some issue again. Looking at the time it does smack of the "post 8pm hello weekender minutes" theory.

I gave up and went to bed shortly after my last post. Besides for the disconnects up till that point browsing was fine.

I connect to the 3G tower on the hospital but use a 3G repeater in the house.

I'm getting quite low throughputs tonight and it does seem to be a function of the cut-over. Seems the Siemens and Alcatel kit don't play nicely and are interfering with each other. So it'll go away as soon as the cut-over is complete.

I was uploading vids to youtube this evening on my B970. Profile said 1400, but my best peak in MDMA was 290. I was quite disappointed. I hope it is temporary.

General note:

We've picked up a trend where the swapping of towers from one vendor to another is definitely affecting all the cells around it. Basically the two sets of kit is messing with each other leading to possible interference.

You might see this as connection issues and lower throughput.

The last site in the Northern subs (Monte Vista) should switch tonight and the guys are currently moving south (Milnerton, Blouberg, M5) and then onto the CBD and Southern Suburbs.

Thanx for the update V3G.

Your area is scheduled for March, BTW.

Are you quite high up where you are? You might be picking up towers quite far away from you.

Naah not really, at the bottom of the foodchain in Vredekloof ... right next to the N1 and at work also not high up (Parow-East corner of West and Voortrekker)

So which area is scheduled for March? Parow-East or Vredkloof?

BTW, still no disconnects or timeouts ...

I'm a Happy Chappy this morning.

Your location says Vredekloof. So that's next month.

Parrow already done. So hopefully it's the end of your problems. I'll see what I can find out.

Just had another disconnect ... I'm using VMCLite - keeps telling me "Network Name Unavailable 2G" - anyways ... just ran a speedtest - Johannesburg server - same one I used in my last post from Cape Town:

D/L: 529 kb/s
U/L: 316 kb/s
Ping: 533ms

Wildly different from what I get in the day from Cape Town.

Vredekloof

I phoned 155 on Monday and they were very helpful. They actually phoned me back yesterday to ask if I still experience problems. It is really a lot faster today - even in the room where I never had a good signal / speed. Also no disconnection yet.

V3g i would like to find out have you heard of any work being done JHB side westdene area gaming has been terrible on the local game server getting average 300-700 latency now.I would also like to point you to my last message

Vodacom
