According to this site the settings are:

Vodacom South Africa

APN: internet
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Email smtp: smtp.vodacom.co.za

Vodafone UK

Homepage: http://wap:1999/vodafone.wml
APN address: wap.vodafone.co.uk (Contract)
APN address: pp.vodafone.co.uk (PAYG)
Gateway (IP) address: 212.183.137.12
Username: wap
Password: wap
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Authentication: Normal
Security: Off
Port number: 8799

i wasnt aware that wap.vodafone.co.uk or pp.vodafone.co.uk worked for Vodacom subscribers

It appears forcing the application to use the internet APN solves the problem, yet when using the default settings(which IS the internet APN) it doesnt work

APN Issue

Hi

I had the same issues this morning with connecting through Vodacom. It seems for some reason when you connect the DNS Servers change to the following IP addresses: 80.95.225.230 and 80.95.225.231 - you can check these in the connection properties under TCP/IP.

I resolved the issue today in VMC Lite by selecting Settings -> APN and then choosing the "Manual APN Settings"

and then entering the following:

APN: Internet

Username: simobil
Password: blank

DSN1: blank
DSN2: blank

Hope this helps. Not sure what happened, but it seems I am not the only one in the office experiencing these issues and I have not been able to get through to their 155 number all day.

Works like a charm!

Check for viruses, but let's not assume it's the full answer. Too many people are reporting this from around the country. So unless there is a widespread attack going on, I'd first look at other areas....

I've had at least 20 people come in to see about this. And roughly 20 more that called in to find out whats going on.

Manually setting the APN to internet seems to solve it.

I just confirmed from a colleague of mine. He also had people with this problem. Canal Walk area.

VMC connections had DNS's attached to it. He removed it. Connected and it was back.

Also from the 80.x.x.x range.

Just checked myself. The range of the DNS was 80.x.x.x from a customer who came in for the same thing.

Manually set the APN to internet and the DNS changed back to the 196.x.x.x range

Thanks for your help with this. Engineering is busy tracing this problem.

Can anyone confirm exactly when this problem started?

Hi

For the last three weeks or more, I have been experiencing very bad signal problems and frequent connection drops while connected to Eersterivier 1 ONLY.
When working from Mowbray/Observatory area, I have none of these.
Phoned 155 on 11/03 at 12:42 and explained the problem.
Got no reference, but told I will get a call back.
Got a call from +278227240 on 11/03 at 15:04 and went through the whole story again.
It seems like the guys are trained to find the fault with the customer's hardware/software/firmware.
In my mind, if it works perfectly in one location, these factors are negligible?
Cannot get it into the

Told the guy the same thing, but he also seems trained to find the fault at the door of the customer.
At this point I told him the problem does not sit on my side and Vodacom must start looking on their side.
Gave him stats using MDMA found at www.nerve.org.za/.
From 11:34 to 13:45 on 12/03 the connection was dropped 5 times.
The radio access technology kept changing between GPRS, EDGE, 3G and once in a while HSDPA.
After some reconnections, according to Vista, I had limited connection, which meant I was connected, but could do nothing - DNS problem?

I have had no feedback since.
This is still continuing only when connected to Eersterivier 1.
What can I do?

Hi, I've been experiencing connection problems since Sunday morning, worked nicely the night before.

Using a SE P990i as a modem connected via USB to the PC using the proprietry software. At first, I thought the phone played up, reset it, removed the battery, etc. That did not help. I tried a different handset which did not help. I went extreme and reinstalled the OS on the PC, that did not help either.

Only tonight am I able to at least access mybroadband website, but most sites now take forever to load. I am in the Daspoort (Pretoria) area. Will check all other settings as listed on this thread and hope to get better connectivity ;)

Guys thanks! What amazing correct information you are giving on this forum, especially after getting the blow off from Vodacom with their std answer 'it will be fixed shortly'.
I used the apn selection and changed to vodacom uk and it worked immediately.
Funny that HSDPA modems weren't effected.
;-p

Explain more what you mean with that, won't you?

Which modems, using which dash, showed the problem?

Which modems, using which dash, did NOT show the problem?

At about lunch time yesterday, 16 March 2009.

I'm now very frustrated - how do I change my DNS to the 196..... range?

What, exactly, must I insert in the APN settings (if that's the right place)? simobil did not work for me.

By the way, I'm in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort and we've had workers digging up our pavement, laying fibre optic cabling, who claim to be doing it on behalf of Vodacom? I was under the impression it was for Neotel, but they are adamant, it's Vodacom!

Are you using VMC-Lite?

Go to the setting where you set the APN, select 'Manual' and enter 'internet' as the setting.
