Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Vodacom 3G service is crap so slow!!!!!!
It took freaking 2mins for this page to load! And this is what Vodacom calls speed! And dont even start talking about the connections dropping the whole time. I really thought getting a 7.2Mps phone will actually help. I would never have thought that I would say this, but I cant WAIT to use ADSL from telkom again....

Well, I am still having more of the same problems I talked about earlier. Took me a full 10 minutes for Vodacom to give me some kb's to load this page. Downloads still dropping to zero and pages not loading, even though it stays connected. When will this end??!
 
I eargerly got home tonight to enjoy hassle free internet browsing, as which I did for a while, about 2 hours....

I disconnected, had dinner, etc, reconnected about 45mins later, and "WTF?!?" Half the sites I was browsing, either timed out or were very slow to say the least.

The usual diags, checked all the settings, of which none where changed, switched off the phone, removed the battery for a few seconds, reassembled, etc. Reconnected and still no better off than I was before that exercise :sick:

Thanks Vodacom for spoiling the rest of my evening !!! :mad:

I've got a full signal - connected at HSDPA - and I think for the first time ever, i pinged Google with a 101 packets and lost not a single one.

But, websites aren't loading, or don't want to finish loading - or take forever to load.

Speedtest seems fine - up to a point:
D/L - 1,800 kbps +
U/L - 87 kbps

Whats with the massive discrepancy there?

Got to agree with you all I cant stand this... I cant get into any international sites either. They just wont load. I have Version 3. something software. Have tried most of the fixes that have been suggested and still I cant get into anything that is not .za. Its driving me nuts. It's worse than dial up. Now where did I put my hammer? I am sitting at 0kbps both ways.

I am seeing DNS time-outs tonight and am having connectivity issues to my IMAP server in the US.
 
Access to local sites is quick, cannot get to most international sites without retrying at least 3-4 times.

Sites such as twitter and facebook is as slow as hell.

What is it with Vodacom (and MTN)? You are sponsoring every Tom, Dick and Harry, but can't keep your networks together?

This is not helping my business, I do web development, and often work after hours due to time zone differences. Big FAIL ....
 
Rather take all the money that you are putting into sucker 23 and upgrade your networks, for crying out loud!
 
What is the Vodascum support number again?

I guess it's time to take the SIM card out of the modem, put it in a phone, call support, take the SIM out of the phone, insert into the mdem and try again.

What did they upgrade? From where I'm sitting, it looks more like a downgrade.

Just how much sharing of network resources is going on lately? I've used MTN for a couple of days, but decided today to switch back to Vodacom due to the poor response with the MTN connection.

Sorry to say, but the Vodacom response is worse. I get the impression they are all sharing the same infrastructure.

btw - All was well until about Sunday (this week).

RAS 619 errors last night, slow connection tonight.... I can't wait for tomorrows exciting episode.....

So much for working on my website that is hosted on an overseas server....

You have no idea - I'm on deadline with a facebook application.

May as well go to the nearest News Cafe or M&B and use their hotspot :mad:

The speed test loads fine for me, and i get
Download Speed: 1500 kbps (187.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 330 kbps (41.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

but a bunch of sites dont load, updated to 9.3 last night :(

Eventually loaded and tested...

Download Speed: 1765 kbps (220.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 25 kbps (3.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Battling with overseas sites/servers
