V3g - no disrespect but you are probably the only employee of the beast that actually can give us an answer and i appreciate your input and the work you do here - but surely you must understand the level of frustration- a prime example is the data helpline its travesty as far as services go.

"Every minute the network is down, revenue is lost."

Bull****- >we pay regardless of the service level if you are on a contract, i don't see any refunds or roll overs to make up for what we pay for and don't get !

I second that.

Do the power's to be at VC see these post's not v3g we appreciate all that is done. We complain here for a reason, hoping that VC will see. IMO it appears to me that VC is more concerned what is said on hellopeter than what is said on this forum ?????

I have just spoken to a Callcentre and they say it is bad news. they are having problems all over the country with Vodacom/3G.

The lights are a flashing and VC not v3g is missing it somehow. :(

As I always say (and it's pretty logical); Every minute the network is down, revenue is lost. So just simple Business 101 principles dictate that you'll want to restore service ASAP.

Contract customers are tied in and can't get out without penalty fees. Also unused data is forfeited at month-end but the account must still be paid in full. Prepaid users have 30 days to use up their bundle and the "use it or lose it" policy applies here too.:(

There may not be any Refunds or Rollovers, but revenue is lost becoz if the network is down, no data will be transfered, and if no data is transfered, no money will be made.

I don't follow because of above-mentioned reasons:confused:

Lucky you:rolleyes:

For weeks you say?

The Forum has also been quiet the last couple of days. Even Hellopeter.

I can't complain. :)

The first post of this thread talks about prepaid being 100% usable by mid-September. Is this still the target? That would be the day after tomorrow?

@v3g what improvement can prepaid users expect in the near/medium term?

You last updated post #1 of this thread on 31 Aug

I trust everybody is OK?

Still connected? You better check your data stats.

Data Stats were exactly as i left it. Yes, everbody ok. Apparently there was a bomb(i doubt it), but we were outside for like 4 hours or so.

And who works in a shop?

Stuck in meetings all day.....just out......

On the 'revenue is lost when the network is down' statement;

Time lost is time lost, you can never recover it. Even though a Vodacom subscriber buys data in bytes, Vodacom buys it in bits/second. So every minute the network is down we still pay for it even if it generates no traffic (aka income).

If the network is down, you loose time you could have used to transfer data or make calls. Even if you have a bundle, it still eats into the time you would have spent online. So again either real or potential revenue is lost.

Lastly, remember, there are nearly 10 times more pre-paid than contract subscribers. Again, if they can't work, time is lost that could have used up balances and they don't need to buy more. Loss of revenue to Vodacom.

So, if you think about it for a minute, Vodacom hurts more than anyone when the network breaks. Thus every attempt is made to prevent it and to recover soonest if it does happen.

The pre-paid issues addressed in post 1 was around the inability to connect / disconnect, specifically due to loading of the back-end systems.

According to our stats this problem cleared quite a while ago and for sure the forum's gone quiet on the topic. So I'm pretty sure that specific problem is addressed.

What 'pre-paid' problems are you still seeing?

The second problem in post 1 was about the horrible international (<100Kb/s) throughput, but again this has been cleared.

(I'm constantly getting 700Kb/s+ international.)

I'll update post 1 to reflect this.

There's been major transmission line disruptions over the last 3 days in the north. At one point we had nearly 200 base stations down....

This affected a huge area across Gauteng.

Wow... 200 base stations... not good at all. Lucky for me i only have to deal with customers down south :D And it all seems good down here for the past 2weeks(less complaints about connections dropping and trouble to connect).

Just now i had quite a few 619's, but its all good now. I think i should update my location to Home AND Work.
