Bye Vodacom! Telkom is installing my ADSL today. Only waited 2 weeks. You just lost R2K pm from me :D I really hope other people will follow. This is absolute bull. If Vodacom doesn't know how to fix the crap they set up, who could possibly know!?!?

zero, just confirmed, there is (yet another or maybe still the same) Telkom/SAIX line problem affecting Midrand / Sandton area today.

I'm actually surprised we did not see more posts?

How can a Telkom issue cause 3G to be down, but not GPRS? My ADSL line is up and running, no problems. I don't mean to be rude, but I think you are clutching at straws. Anyways, don't bother fixing whatever is stukkend....I wont be using this k@k anymore.

I have no need or reason to lie to you......

The 3G network is a completely different network, with it's own architecture. So it does not always share Telkom links with the 2G network.

Please, no 'posters curse' :)

The last time JohanduToit posted that the networks is running fine, the whole bloody thing came crashing down....

But I'm glad you're up and running.

Also, since the 2G radio network operates on a lower frequency than the [separate] 3G radio network, a 2G radio signal can travel further than a 3G radio signal, and consequently a 2G base-station has a larger radio footprint compared to a 3G base-station - e.g. even when these base-stations share the same physical mast, it is conceivable that zerofocus' modem might be using a distant 2G base-station for GPRS, that uses physically different backhaul links unaffected by a Telkodemonopolies breakage affecting backhaul links and 2G&3G base-stations closer to where zerofocus has been trying to use HSDPA.

Ok, maybe I should have made my post more clear. What I meant was that I wasn't getting any 3G signal. So either the tower was down, or someone farted :D

Moreleta Park, Pretoria, Thursday 13 Sept. No HSDPA, no 3G, only GPRS. Slower than dial-up. Last night the connection was acceptable, although not great. I can only echo Hobbit's frustration: bad experiences since about end January/beginning February. Seriously contemplating alternatives, but hoping Vodacom will be able to sort out its problems. The explanations given by V3G provide reasons for problems (which is appreciated), but does not address the frustration I experience, nor does it address the issue of paying for a service which simply does not deliver what is promised. I have now been waiting for more than 10 minutes for the Vodacom speed test page to load in order to include results here, but I'm giving up. I understand that the problem might not be in the Vodacom domain, but the result for me is simply the same.

Any suggestions for improvement? Another service provider? ... or is there a realistic expectation that the situation will improve?

Prepaid 2G

Location: Ashburton south of PMBurg
IP: 10.49.245.58
IMEI: 355083014391798

Now obtaining EDGE signal consistently (not GPRS). Download rate continually drops to 0KB/s. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually rectifies this (for a while)

- Several disconnects in the last 24 hours, not had that before

- This morning between 06h30 and 08h00 could not connect at all, due to the return of Error code 619 , not seen that for a couple of weeks

- Speed is slower than ever (no I cannot be bothered to do a speed test right now)

I'm making the best of it and using the internet as and when I can.

The first post of this thread talks about prepaid being 100% usable by mid-September. Is this still the target? That would be the day after tomorrow?

It is there frikken problem and it is in their domain - i am sick of hearing ISP's palm off other telkoms companies as the problem - passing the buck smacks of i don't give a ****.

Don't confuse giving reasons why things fail with not taking responsibility. If the service fails (for whatever reason) Vodacom must restore it. Simple.

When something fails, there's a massive amount of activity to restore it, for sure not a don't care attitude. As I always say (and it's pretty logical); Every minute the network is down, revenue is lost. So just simple Business 101 principles dictate that you'll want to restore service ASAP.

I seem to have developed a bad habit to try and keep you guys in the loop on what happens behind the scenes. I should probably stop and just start giving the typical 'We are attending to the problem' type of responses.

V3g - no disrespect but you are probably the only employee of the beast that actually can give us an answer and i appreciate your input and the work you do here - but surely you must understand the level of frustration- a prime example is the data helpline its travesty as far as services go.

"Every minute the network is down, revenue is lost."

Bull****- >we pay regardless of the service level if you are on a contract, i don't see any refunds or roll overs to make up for what we pay for and don't get !

There may not be any Refunds or Rollovers, but revenue is lost becoz if the network is down, no data will be transfered, and if no data is transfered, no money will be made.

This really summarises how we all feel. You used kind & soft words. +- 8 months. Wow. People like myself, we say like we feel & we get into trouble & land on ignore lists :p.

Good questions.
