Well, it's just another night with Vodacom HSDPA, frequent disconnects, slow throughput - just the normal crap.

Mine seems to be ok today:) I'm in Linux again though. Yesterday had problems in Xp and switching to Linux seemed to help a bit. I mentioned yesterday that the Vodafone connect in Linux had different dns setting but ironically it still connects through the default dns settings:
Code:
Sep 4 21:09:42 sky-desktop pppd[9645]: primary DNS address 10.11.12.13
Sep 4 21:09:42 sky-desktop pppd[9645]: secondary DNS address 10.11.12.14

So I'm still puzzled by what is causing the problem in XP:confused: It connects but no downloads come through. Used internet apn in both XP and Linux. I have activated internetvpn but haven't tested it as yet.

You are on the wrong side of the highway.

What mode are you set for 3g preferred or 3G only?
I am using 3G only & am getting no disconnects.

What is your APN set to. or what is your IP?

on XP if you do a nslookup of smtp.vodacom.co.za what do you get timeouts or does it resolve the name. You can also do a ipconfig /flushdns.

APN

I created another profile in my dashboard called vpn and then I just disconnect select vpn profile and connectand then you are on internetvpn.

Is anybody having a problem picking up a 3G signal?? For about the last 4 days I have only been able to get a GPRS connection (Green light on VMC). I am in Durbanville, Cape Town. I am pulling my hair out. I am using Mobile Connect Lite V2.1.6.1. I normally get HSDPA speeds here.

Reply from 196.11.146.148: bytes=32 time=123ms TTL=247

Ping statistics for 196.11.146.148:
Packets: Sent = 17, Received = 17, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 116ms, Maximum = 150ms, Average = 132ms

Speedtest.net:

1) Cape Town

Ping: 277ms

D/load: 699 kbps
U/load: 288 kbps

Download a bit slow for a 1800kbps connection (39% of potential), but still okay.

2) London

Ping: 266ms

D/load: 548kbps
U/load: 347kbps

3) New York

Ping: 266ms

D/load: 548kbps
U/load: 347kbps

So all seems well. There was a hiccup during the test where the was a period of around 40secs of no activity.

Have you tried setting your profile to 3g only?

If he's struggling to get a 3G signal(this after he could get full 3G signal), would setting his profile to look for 3G only help at all? Its like setting your profile to 3G only in a GPRS only zone... you aint gonna get no 3G.

Did you change any settings or profile on Mobile Connect Lite?
Have you phoned 155 and reported it? Also send an email to customercare@vodacom.co.za

@Iam3g, maybe it is switching to GPRS because of a better signal strength.
