It's gone again!

Two complete weeks of first time connection, not even one dropped connection...

Now its all gone!

Seems to be only on my 076 data SIM as everything else 3G works but at R2 per meg! Pop the 076 SIM into another 3G handset just to check the the E220 is OK and no connect using a spare 3G handset. Pop another SIM into the E220 and it all works at R2 per meg!

Best value internet connection for your Rand.

Subject to getting bloody connected of course!

Dear Santa please ask MTN for a 3G tower in Stilbaai...

All,

Please let me know if you're getting 619's on pre-paid when trying to connect.

We're seeing an increase at the moment. Busy tracing.

Remember to include your area.

PS. Not the same issue as the guys in Pta East are seeing!

Battling a bit to understand what you're saying, but does what you see tie in with what I posted, i.e. battling to connect on pre-paid?

PPDB Doringkloof Centurion

Had a total disconnect for a while earlier this evening. Several 619 errors while trying to connect. But it is OK now.

Ok I have crap connections now and then, but thats besides the point, but I am used to waiting by now, since it is taking so long. My other problem is that my connection keeps on "swapping" , I'm on hsdpa, then after while im on 3G, then again on hsdpa and so on. This seems to happen when My connection isn't busy enough, then it switches over to 3G speeds etc. This is not a problem with my phone because of the fact that it doesn't happen elsewhere there is 3G reception. What might be the problem? Is in fact the tower switching me to 3G because I'm not utilizing hsdpa speeds the whole time?

The phone has an indicator that shows what service / signal it is using, thus jumping from 3G to H, indicating the 2 services. It is a Samsung i600 with windows mobile v5.1.525.

I know it is not the phone because in other areas such as watercloof, edenvale and nigel, I have noticed that it doesn't jump from the one to the other, if it gets an hsdpa signal, it stays there.

Yes, you're seeing normal 3G/HSDPA behaviour. When your connection is idle it'll switch down to 'normal 3G, but as soon as you stoart sending data, it'll jump into HSDPA.

Is there a way of determining at what data throughput speed that happens, I play an online game, which uses about 7KB/s or so, and the problem is as the connection keeps on switching back and forth, thats when the game spikes occur, as well as slowdowns and ping elevation. I would like to know of possible methods to stop the signal from switching, thus keeping it busy enough to "think" hsdpa is needed?

Is this on voice or data?

Although I'm pretty happy that you are seeing normal behaviour, the feact that you see it different in different areas is of interrest.

Where do you see the more active switching? Can you give a more detailed address?

Try a background ping. Maybe up the packet size if 64bytes won't keep it in HSDPA.

This is where i see it switching constantly. it is on data, when I'm connected to the internet. I think if there is a way to make it stick to hspda, then the problem would be resolved, but how does one fool a tower :(

Yes indeed, yesterday afternoon I could not connect at all... I just needed to rant and rave a bit to make myself feel better! :)

I always log a call for each problem now as I feel its no good to complain if the network are actually unaware of the problem. However, I have never received a logoff with any detail.
