Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Huawei hsdpa usb modem setup

Hey there,

I just bought a usb modem from the Vodashop and purchased a 2Gig data bundle. Here are the modem specs :

Huawei HSDPA E220 USB

I plugged it into my Macbook pro running Mac OS tiger. Then installed Vodafone Mobile Connect application. I clicked "Activate" and then connected via Internet connect.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work at all. It doesn't seem to receive any data. What is there that I can do to make my internet work?

Please update your location information so we can see where you are.

I am using dailup at the moment because Vodacom's link in Doringkloof Centurion is down at the moment !!!!

I have updated my location. I'm in Equestria, Pretoria. Near Menlyn.

Down? How can they be down? How often does this happen, and for how long? I hope I didn't make a mistake by getting the Vodacom hsdpa broadband...

How does one know when it is officially down?
Also...where do I check when it comes back up again?
Obviously, I can connect and reload a page every 5 minutes to check, but is there some type of status window on the Vodacom site somewhere?

When can not connect and you have been working. If all else fails you try and try again. You post on this forum.

You call 155 from a vodacom cell phone report your problem to them and ask them the relevat question. No status on VC site.

@v3g. Are you aware of the problems up North??

Vodacom off in Wierdapark Centurion

Can't seem to connect to either GPRS or 3G for today in Wierdapark Centurion. Whats going on Vodacom:confused::(

Get it right for one:(
 
It working now. At last...

I'm totally amazed.
I just pinged a server in cape town and got a physical download speed of 756KBps.
Now that's fast as hell. I'm not sure if it's because of a burst after getting the servers back up, but I sure hope it stays that way.
 
Vodacom down In Doringkloof Centurion.

Untill yesterday all was OK, no untill this morning @ 09:51 dead. No 3G, no GPRS. Ping goes out but never ever returns. So what the :mad: is going on. It is now 17:57.

Can somebody please tell us what is going on not even 155 knows.:mad:

Had the same problem this morning - no Vodacom HSDPA in Irene. I don't even bother to phone 155, they are monkeys.
 
My first day with hsdpa...
It went on for about half an hour earlier.
It's been down again ever since this afternoon.
What a shame...
 
It has been down here since about midday as well:( Tried internet, internetvpn and vlive apns on my phone - all give the same error:

Before I started this session about 20 minutes ago I checked again - was still down. So I didn't bother putting my VC sim into my E220 - using MTN instead.

Maybe 3.6Mbps is being implemented?:) Strange why V3g is so quiet today?:confused: Maybe catching all the cricket:p

Edit: just checked on my phone again - seems to be up again.
 
2Gig PPDB Scottsville Pietermaritzburg

Been down the whole day here as well (or at least till late this afternoon, I did not try after 4PM).

Connects OK but NO thruput.

Only reason I know is that I have 700Mb still on my Bundle, expires 25th, so wanting to do some P2P TV show downloads :mad:

Oh, well - at least my WISP (GWI) connection is working. Normally the other way round ;)
