Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Yesterday's problems in Gauteng were caused by an internal system of some sort on our side. Could have afected Natal as well.

But this morning's is due to work Telkom was doing to their lines (and running late) affecting about 100 sites in the Pta / Midrand area. Sounds like it should all be up again. Can you guys confirm?

WRX1KNP, I'm looking into your problem. If you think it's DNS, can you connect directly to an IP?

V3G, I can't tell you in words how tired I am of this. Can we please get compensation, or do you just say - ag, screw them, as long as they make our coffers fuller.

Prepaid still not working today in KZN. Yesterday I was able to connect but there was 0Kb/s throughput. Since last night all I get is err code 619

I literally just went out to buy another MTN SIM so I can post this. (MTN have this bizarre idea that if I run out < 30 days I will be happy to go OOB until the 30 days has elapsed).

I understand there are TelkomSA problems in KZN? I await with interest to see how many days the Vodacom service is down.

It so happens that I also lost the last of my prepaid bundle as of yesterday ... but that's an occupational hazard I guess

On a separate note I notice that the SMS 100/balance enquiry has been taking 6 hours to respond. This surely is separate from any network connectivity issues?

One thing I like about Vodacom compared to the competition is the 100/balance and the 100/MYGIG etc. But it's only an attractive feature if the response period is a minute or two not hours.

Perhaps it's not always within Vodacom's control? I know we always used to say for critical applications SMS delivery is not even guaranteed. (If anyone knows please do correct me).

And how is it that my bank (FNB) deliver SMS info within a few minutes EVERY time I make a transaction?

I sent my balance request SMS at 07:48 an received the response at 14:27. My prepaid is working again.

Looks like we're in business again. Just got my new 1GB bundle for the month deducted from my Vodacom airtime. If only I'd known ...

My latest theory is that the best contingency is to have MTN and Vodacom always available. Trouble is that makes me more inclined to want rollover, or at least a greater expiry, say 60 days instead of 30.

Hiya

Just wondering , should I do the ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns thiny for my HSDPA connection as well ?

Did above-mentioned , now I'm on GPRS.

1st time HSDPA noob :D

Will check what's going on with the SMS service.

No, the card will select the best signal, but will be controlled by the 'profile' setting in your dashboard, depending on which dash you use.

A 3G-Preferred profile will search for the best signal, but sometimes it works better to force the card to 3G/HSDPA by using a 3G-Only profile.

OK - many thanks :)

Dorinkloof Centurion down again 3G/Gprs.

Will check what's going on with the SMS service.

Not again. (Is it Telkom? At least the dialup still works phew!)

Dorinkloof Centurion down again 3G/Gprs. Down. 155 say's your turn around time is 24 hours, so we can not log a call. You have to wait 24Hours. So that means wait till 10 tomorrow then call 155 again??

I second that sms/100 take's long time to turn around.

GPRS via Cell phone is also down. WTH. is going on. Is this not maybe sportage ??? You know what I mean. I am almost convinced the yellow is behind this.

Don't you need a minimum of R1 balance to connect? Do you have a bundle loaded?

No.

Message from the horses mouth.

Please be advised that the internet connectivity service has been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience experienced. If you are using a prepaid number please ensure that you have a minimum balance of R2 or a data bundle more than 500kb before establishing a internet connection.Thank you Kind regards, Vodacom Customer Care (Saadick Abrahams)

This was sent to me by sms. N/B I can now receive sms's and even read them.;)

To clarify, you cannot connect because you don't have more than R2 balance?

Can I call the network guys and ask them to stop investigating network failures in your area. They told me they could find nothing wrong but I sent them back.
