Problem addressed

Hi

For the last three weeks or more, I have been experiencing very bad signal problems and frequent connection drops while connected to Eersterivier 1 ONLY.
When working from Mowbray/Observatory area, I have none of these.
Phoned 155 on 11/03 at 12:42 and explained the problem.
Got no reference, but told I will get a call back.
Got a call from +278227240 on 11/03 at 15:04 and went through the whole story again.
It seems like the guys are trained to find the fault with the customer's hardware/software/firmware.
In my mind, if it works perfectly in one location, these factors are negligible?
Cannot get it into the

Told the guy the same thing, but he also seems trained to find the fault at the door of the customer.
At this point I told him the problem does not sit on my side and Vodacom must start looking on their side.
Gave him stats using MDMA found at www.nerve.org.za/.
From 11:34 to 13:45 on 12/03 the connection was dropped 5 times.
The radio access technology kept changing between GPRS, EDGE, 3G and once in a while HSDPA.
After some reconnections, according to Vista, I had limited connection, which meant I was connected, but could do nothing - DNS problem?

I have had no feedback since.
This is still continuing only when connected to Eersterivier 1.
What can I do?

The Vodacom network guys have been out to my place and are looking into my problem.

I've just been sitting with terrible speeds and random disconnects throughout the day.

I've had it up to here now with this sort of crap now ... I'm paying for a service which I'm not getting - or when I am getting it, it's terrible and unreliable.

I'm not even going to consider renewing my contract when if finishes in August - I'd rather sit with Telkom's crap ... at least its more stable.

Won't you pass me your details (again :)), I don't normally save it.

At least some of you guys are getting international. Right now I'm posting using the gprs network, don't think I have to mention how unbearable that is.

I'm prepaid and I bought my bundles Friday 1 gig. Being a varsity student I only get to browse proper during the weekend and I haven't been able to do so satisfactorily. It's EXTREMELY annoying especially when vodacom doesn't seem to think the problem lies on their side.

Worse for me is I simswapped from MTN to Voda because they are the only network that provides 3G services in my area. I'm beginning to think it was a mistake...:(

I assume you have confirmed that you have coverage according to the vodacom coverage map? What modem are you using? Have you moved around your house to see if you get better signal in different parts of your house? If your device is supported check out the MDMA tool (sticky in the MTN thread). It will help you to find the location with the best signal. Are you able to test your device in a different location (i.e. at varsity or a friends house) to make sure things are setup correctly?

@:V3g

Kloof / Forrest Hills area of Durban still very erratic with high latency and no speed to speak of. Been like this for over a week now. Haven't posted anything until now because the KZN issues were raised in other threads, but after more than a week of consistent problems with no end seemingly in sight, I thought that it necessary to mention it here so that you are aware of it. You have my details as per PM of last month.

Since last week Wednesday, I have been unable to use a 3G connection at home (in Waverley, Pretoria). It connects but nothing can be accessed (it doesn't appear to only be a DNS issue). Connecting to 2G works.
During the day at work in Sandton, everything works as it should.
Any ideas what the problem can be?

I'm keeping an eye on it for today - I haven't been online much over the weekend ... but today so far I've been online for about 3 hours without any glitches.

Connection seems to be behaving so far - although its up and down between 3G and HSDPA a lot and when I run a speedtest (while on HSDPA) my speeds are EXTREMELY low:

D/L: 792 kbps
U/L: 104 kbps

OK, but keep me in the loop. Are you still in contact with Sean Carter? (Were you ever?)

Okay, my problems at home seem to be a thing of the past, but now I have issues in the day while I'm in town (Woodstock area).

Constant disconnects as well as periods of zero throughput, followed by a disconnect. Sometimes I can just connect again, other times I need to unplug and re-insert the modem before I can get online again.

I think we must just confiscate your modem! :)

As per usual, PM me the details.

Hi All,

Connecting at 3G but surfing in GPRS speed.

This is my refrence number:000QAa4VAMQ80NJB from Vodacom.

3G has been almost totally unavailable from home today. There has been some scratchy GPRS available, with speeds reaching the dizzying heights of 26kb/s on the downlink.

I finally managed to get an HSDPA link at about 11:30pm (after digging out a Poynting and aiming it at Pietermaritzburg). I had 3/5 signal and managed 953kb/s down and 25kb/s up. So the free HSUPA is definitely not working here today. I then disconnected the antenna and tried the Hilton tower, and managed a connection (2/5 signal - it's usually 3) and got 696kb/s down and 56kb/s up. This is at 11:45 at night when it should be running well.

Logged a call with 155 but that was ten minutes ago and I haven't got the sms to give me the reference number yet, so hopefully they haven't crumpled the piece of paper up and tossed it away.

Another little tidbit I would like to add, since it could possibly be significant - my disconnects always start roughly between 11am and 12pm - and then they continue until I leave the office at 5pm.

Have disconnects again. I'm in Newlands Cape Town. Is there still a problem at Vodacom? Worked fine in Pinelands earlier today.

I was told that there are equipment swop-outs being performed in the general Cape Town area - so maybe that is affecting Newlands as well.

Should hopefully be cleared up by the weekend.

Northern suburbs are supposed to be done and last comment I saw from v3g was that they were working in Southern suburbs.

My connection at home has been quite stable since late last week (and I am just down the road from you in Bothasig).

I know shadowfox's been chatting to Eric and the guys, so he's probably referring to other stuff outside the tower swopout. Probably something more central.

Glad to see you're stable now (or at least, your connection is). After all your b!tching and moaning, the guys built 3 new towers around your house....:D
