Vodacom Select vs DStv Compact

I can see some definite camps here:
The history/discovery/animalplanet/natgeo fans
The CNN/Sky/BBCNews fans
The SS1-SSx fans
the MNET Series/ActionX/BBC Prime fans...
now if they could lump some similar genres into much smaller packages and let you purchase your "genre"/"genres" to your own liking, that would be better too...

Yah unfortunately Multichoice seem dead set against customers being able to choose their own channels. I suppose they have to get the Parliamentary and Rhema crap off on someone.

IIRC, I saw thet SABC range and e-TV on the list as well? WHY?! We have normal antennas for that! rather replace them with something useful

True for now, but with the switch-over to digital it will help. If you have SABC/eTV via DSTV, you won't need a set-top box to access them then.

That'd be for the farmers so they can be forced to pay their SABC license

Can we use the PVR service with DSTV Select?
Nope but you could always use a TiVo :D

Should DStv Select be viewed using a dual-view or PVR decoder, only single-view functionality will be available on either of these decoders.
The above is taken from the "DSTV Select - Terms and Conditions" webpage and states that you won't be able to make use of the second viewing environment when using DSTV Select. Customer care helpline also confirmed that you won't be able to use the PVR to record shows.

Both are rubbish. Its better to pay cash for the premium package. Because if you pay cash upfront you only pay for 11 months and get 1 month free. Its like R5000 for the year! Really worth it if you a sport lover and there is alot of value for money for the premium package :)

still looks rather poor. what we all want is to choose our own damn channels, but alas, this seems to fall on deaf ears and in my opinion, ones that are deliberately not listening.

They won't do that because it will cut into their fat profits... They make money by forcing you all to pay for **** you don't watch or want... the classic hallmarks of the monochoice monopoly....

Total rubbish offerings by another monopoly.
Its like choosing between 2 spice girls cds!
My parents have compact and my heart pumps custard.
I want competion to destroy multichoice.
Besides Discovery i have nothing to look forward to on dstv full.
I mean in Europe Zone has other channels, horror, fantasy etc.
We get the free to air cruddy reality.

I also find it amazing that they include traditionally free channels - the sabcs etc

So how long have you been a Multichoice employee?

The German Bouquet is also made up of free to air channels. Don't see how DSTV could charge the money it does for it.

You haven't had it long then? We've had it for a few years and it gets worse every year. It is NOT worth the money.

I just want Formula 1, and they can sod the rest.

While some of the Discovery, History, Travel and BBC stuff USED to be interesting, all they seem to consist of nowadays is reruns of reruns and adverts of other channels (why do I need to see an advert of what is on other channels - that's why there's a freaking guide).

They are rapidly accumulating some seriously p'd off customers. I am just waiting for the chance to get everything I need over TCP/IP.
