Vodacom speed test! check upload speed.

I'm on the 3.6 profile and there's very little difference in performance compared to the figures you getting there.

Having said that I believe Vodacom is no longer charging the R49 premium for the 3.6 profile. I stand under correction though...

What I will say is the E272 seems to be a significantly superior modem compared to the E220...

I'm most impressed with the performance I'm getting from it and to be honest it's as sweet as my DSL account (no a gaming with it though)..

In this snapshot your profile is 1792/1408 which is normal and not the numbers you quotes. Aha, suspect you mean the speed was 1800/1074 ?

Well, you are running at the max of the profile (1800) which suggest there might be spare capacity that could be revealed by the 3.6 profile and the E272.

I'd suggest you do a number of tests on the E272 over a period (say one per 3 hours over 2 days) and if you constantly get around 1800, give 3.6 a shot for a month and see what you get.

But obviously there's no garuantees on this. :)
 
Speed Test

Sorry, wanted to report my speed test but I have been sitting on http://www.speedtest.net/ for 5 minutes now and it only loaded 91% of the test panel thingy, so it seems as if my 3G's speed is a negative value

Perhaps you should try clearing your browser's cache, in conjunction with not rejecting good advice to use the 3G Only setting when you are in a 3G covered area.
 
Why are you people only pinging local sites? Vodacon is charging us 2rand per meg. It takes about 2 megs to load speedtest.net and run the speed test(if it doesn't stop halfway because of packet loss :O)

Think vodacom is attempting to get as many of its customers to use local only sites so that they can make clean 100% profit. at ripoff prices

If you are on bundle it can be as low as 19c per meg;)

Won't you please explain:

1) How Vodacom is "attempting to get users to use local ony" - What are the actions you deem under the word 'attempt' ?

2) How local-only traffic results in 100% profit?

simple, they invest into popular local social networking websites.
They have bought up shares in mxit and own Zoopy.com and both are primarily used for consuming data by their over paying clients.

Using local loop data is alot cheaper than international. Especially so for vodacon since they have access to parent network(telkom)'s infrastructure.

They probably make just as much money by charging people 2rand for international as they do local data.. but I stil think its best to use your data overseas than paying for something which adsl users get nearly for free..

"Local Loop data" is a new term to me but I think you confuse Telkom's local loop with a 3G radio network that's interconnected with links rented from Telkom. The local loop is the piece of copper between your home and the closest Telkom exchange. So while you use the local loop on ADSL to get to a local or international server, it's only the first hop and there are no services directly behind it.

You need to tell me more about these shares Vodacom bought in MXiT. Never heard this before. When were these shares bought and by whom?

But do explain where Vodacom is attempting to get users to use local data only? Or do you base it purely on the fact that we invested in Zoopy.
 
All this talk of upload speeds has got me wondering why my upload plateaus at 120kb/s.

I be using an e220 which does get near 384up on MTN.

Not a big issue, but anything that might get me gaming latencies down...

Download Speed: 1870 kbps (233.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1155 kbps (144.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Yeez, I just a did a Gamco check (Same engine as a few others, I know :) ) and look what I got:
