This is a trend that's come from the USA. The Americans have set the trend with high executive salaries, and golden parachutes and other crap. Compare this to what the CEO of a Japanese company, takes home.
But, as I have learnt in my 12 year career, managers, especially in SA are greedy beyond belief. I have resigned from at least 3 companies over the years because of this. A classic case in point which has happened to me exactly 3 times: The financial year end comes and goes, suddenly Mr. CEO rocks up in a new E55 Merc he paid R1m cash for and then on the same day proceeds to tell the staff that there is no increase this year because there is no money What kind of message do you think that conveys? Meanwhile we need tools in the workshop, and the building needs maintenance and we need an increase because petrol price has skyrocketed. Guess what, I spoke to someone from that company the other day, 4 years on they still haven't gotten an increase but they've lost 92% of their staff...
On the whole, I have no time, nor respect for people who think they are justified being paid these large sums of money to sit on their backsides and supposedly run the company, when actually it is their poorly-paid employees who are doing ALL the work.
I have always thought that for people like this, they should create a special tax bracket, 70% because in the end you and I are getting p*sspoor service and paying for their luxury. I am getting to the point where I am seriously considering not having a cellphone.
And vodacom3g's little chortle didn't go unnoticed. I bet that one is taking home a bar or so too... to dispense advice that a techie can give you, whilst said techie gets paid the standard Telkom salary of about R5000 pm for technicians.
