I tried to buy an iPhone 4 today from a Vodashop today because they had stock (I'm on MTN) but they said two things: The warrantly is void if I put an MTN sim into the phone and that Vodacom has preinstalled software and that the phone wouldn't work correctly on the MTN network. Does anyone know if these can be true? I don't see how the software could be an issue.

Who cares about Vodacom's stupid software, get yourself an American iTunes account and you can access a hell of a lot more apps.

It sounds pretty random to me. Just the kind of stuff store employees spout to make themselves feel better

Lies. Vodacom doesn't have any preinstalled software on iPhones. No carrier does actually.

Thanks for the responses. I bought it today and once the microsim is active I will see how it goes!

Bull! All phones in South Africa are network unlocked, so you can put any sim in there that you want. When I bought my 3G in Jan of 2009, they also spinned some story of warranty not valid and boo hoo. Any sim will work, and never had any problems on my iphone with a MTN sim in there.

Gonna do it again in Jan when I upgrade to the iphone4

I got mine for R 7999 from the Vodashop in Kenilworth. I think that price is still too high as I've heard of lower prices elsewhere.
