There is no difference between the VLive firmware and the Nokia firmware, outside of a few pre-defined profiles and the odd button re-map.

The phones might present different ID's to the network causing a non-VLive handset to not render VLive content properly.

Why did you re-flash your phone?
 
P990 Re branding

When having your SE P990 re branded please ensure they do it with the following:

The P990 script that you need to ask for is MR1_VCOM_ZA_CCTR1A21_CDA162008/62_R4A01

My current version is CDA 162007/2 R3B01 and will not let you get onto VLive mobile TV
Going to have it done tomorrow, will give feedback after

What a mission it has been with what should be a fantastic phone
 
vlive settings

apn: vlive
proxy setting: 196.6.128.12
proxy port: 8080

everthing else the same as for usual internet browsing
make sure you use the vlive access point when connecting - set it to default

The easiest way is to get the internet settings sent to your phone and to just change the apn and proxy settings.

It should be provisioned on your sim, If I use any phone, MTN included, my homepage is always VLIVE, which I can live with.;)
 
Lol, stupid me, my phone had automatically put the APN name as Vlive! instead of Vlive. Problem sorted, thanks guys.

For Ic, *111# does not get Vlive settings, only the Internet AP, and vodacom told me they do not have the Vlive setting, it only comes on vodafone live enabled phone already on it.

So, the reason I took the vodafone firmware, its buggy, heard of many people all over the world saying branded firmwares have damaged their phones (I dont know the real truth of this 100% but a friend of mine has a few contracts and his vodafone N70 stopped working after a week of use, Nokia said the vodafone firmware damaged it- therefore i stay away from it)
2nd reason, i really dont like my phone saying "vodafone" all over it! So I have baught other covers for my N70, then the firmware also keeps reminding me a have a vodafone phone, at the "Go To" screen and the screensaver is irritating because every time you change themes the vodafone screensaver keeps getting activated on the N70.

So like with other people, I just dont like the Vodafone branding, I would much prefer to get the original phone, so please, service providers, give people a choice of a branded phone or not!
 
Dont get me started about vodafones firmware.i cant even download a mp3 player for my cell.its firmware rejects the application.i should of got a unbranded cell.its a hassle removing the firmware and i am not going to pay anything for the removal of the firmware.i rather go buy a new phone !

IMO there must be far more than one :p By the way I'm using a Virgin Mobile Sticker on my Vodafone branded phone :D I regularly use Virgin for data and have notice an improvement in service over the past couple of month's.
 
Why Pay????

:o Guys Vodacom caught us all for suckers! I am in a massive arguement with Vodacom. I reported to them that I cannot even browse the vlive page free of charge. The response I get from them is that it is my phone!! :eek: Crap! Some of my friends were politely told to recharge their accounts while they had sufficient funds on their phones! I know lots of people with branded phones and upgraded phones with the same situation. We purchased branded phones and found that it got free wap. I had free wap for 10 months, and it was stopped without warning or ceremony. That was not fair, because the phone was purposely bought for the free gprs, and to browse sites offering jobs, because I am unemployed :( I want to know the following:
1) How many people bought vlive branded phones for free gprs?
2) How long were you enjoying free gprs?
3) What make of phone do you use for browsing vlive?
4) Do you pay for browsing vlive homepage?
5) In which area do you stay?

Please mail me above info urgently! We cannot just sit back and accept this for granred. We are entitled to honest and fair replies and to fair treatment my te service provider. Many people changed networks because of this and upgraded their phones with vlive software!

Were they ever sold with free GPRS as a feature? If not then you can't really complain.

Please show me where Vodacom advertised or otherwise informed you that you will get 'free gprs' if you buy a Vodacom phone and I'll ensure you get it.

Send me the details on you being charged to browse the VLive portal, using the VLive apn, and I'll sort it out.
 
I believe some zealous and less than honest salespeople did in fact tell people they would get free wap/net. Although correct at the time it was not the whole story. This is where a customer centric company would launch an investigation into what their salespeople were up to and compensate customers who were negatively affected.

I agree and I did actually take this up with our people who look after the retail channel, but without any proof I cannot do much more.

I'd love to find and make an example, but so far no-ones been able to make a statement better than yours, i.e. "I believe....."

You know I'll take this up if you guys bring the ammo!

But I also believe most of these people knew they were riding a data gravy-train. Think about it, all marketing and other information tell you one thing, and then a salesman tells you another. Most people buying a data-type of product can't really claim ignorance.

People believe what they want to hear. You've got to be pretty dumb to really believe it though, if any network in SA was genuinely offering free GPRS I'm sure they'd advertise it massively and claim the market overnight.
 
Thats why i use virgin rather than vodacom.I also had free internet for 10 months on vlive.But switch over to virgin when vodacom started charging for gprs.I get 1gig of data for R200 from virgin.The only thing is i have to swop the sim card.
 
Sorry R500 for 1 gig of data from virgin that last me for 2 months.
