Vodapay ????

@Flanders I recall that there was an update, a few updates ago, that made the app data free? Should be no OOB

Yeah, I just meant that soon as I go out of wifi range I'm eating OOB in general and was unable to rectify.

It's working now and I was able to allocate data as per the previous app. I buy airtime on banking app and then allocate data in the voda app. Once the thing actually loaded properly it seemed fairly intuitive although hugely bloated, but then again so was the old app.

These are the main issues I encountered:

  • Firstly, there's no ways I'm using a wallet on an app like this. I know you don't have to but it means all this 5 pin login etc. which to me is just frustrating. Because I'm not using a wallet, I tried just using 00000, then 99999 and then 12345. These weren't accepted but no error given so I couldn't advance and didn't know why.
  • Upon first startup, you're prompted for phone number. After entering, it gave me a network error repeatedly, whether on wifi or mobile. This happened again after reinstalling and only rectified much later and randomly it seems.
  • After the number was finally accepted, it sends an OTP. I get the OTP, come back to the app and suddenly the field is auto populated with a different no. than the OTP I was just given and then proceeds on its own. Wtf.
  • The section highlighted in yellow in image below would not load (just showed loading animation) so could not access the only part of the app I'll ever use. This also happened when going through "Recharge & pay bill > Airtime & bundles" where the following screen would be stuck loading as per my screenshot in previous post.
  • As of yet, no response to my email although I think it said reply would be within 48 hrs or whatever it may be.

Yeah, Ock, so was I until yesterday. I opened the old app and got a message saying "We have moved" and couldn't use it anymore.

Hopefully this post is a bit more constructive and not just me ranting while pulling my hair out. To anyone reading this down the line who may be experiencing similar problems, try giving it time, reinstall, pray - in no particular order. :p

I have not received that message yet and my old app still working. Maybe they rolling it out in stages on server side. Damn I hope they skip me by mistake. Hope I have not jinxed it now lol.

I was also forced to use Vodapay last month when I got the message that they have moved to Vodapay. Myvodacom stopped working that day.

Praying might help!

The loading issues you mention sounds familiar but only happen on my old phone or when my internet is a bit shoddy. I also had that registration issue, that it would complain about my network (fibre backed wifi) and it only went away after I switched on my mobile data on my vodacom sim.
 
Don’t get me started on Vodapay. I did not like it when it was launched, I do not like it now, and I certainly don’t like it that it’s now the “official” Vodacom app.

I would really like to meet the decision makers at Vodacom, who thought it good that the official app of a company would not be even called the name of the company, but something as confusing as “Vodapay”

But what does one expect from Vodacom?

This is the same company that does the following:

- They have one of the most appalling and non user friendly websites in the world, in 2024!!
- They try to phone me on my DATA line, when responding to queries. On my DATA line, I ask you!!??
- all of a sudden, they decided to send my monthly invoice to my email address, but the statement to another email (which is still active, but I have asked them years ago to stop using that one)
- try speaking to a human when phoning customer care. The system wants to push you off onto TOBI, their “virtual assistant” on WhatsApp.
- Their (appalling) website says an esim to esim sim swop is possible, but their system doesn’t allow such action to be done by a Vodashop.

@Ockie is there not somewhere where customers can make suggestions on how to improve things, or will Vodacom not care?

(And please don’t refer me to TOBI :ROFL:)
 
@bluepoole - This app is run by XLink Communications with Vodacom Group as shareholder. This app will send you SPAM sms's even after deleting your account on the app before uninstalling it.
The managing of your Vodacom account will be better served via the https://www.vodacom.co.za within your browser for sure.
The Executive Head Of Departments at VC were warned of potential problems with this app etc.
We have no mercy for this Bull Sugar and Ice Tea.

Simply register your profile on their website alternatively register a customer support ticket via Email to resolve
 
Wanted to buy data today. Tried the app and saw that I had to installl the new VodaPay app. What a mess...

Most options throws either an error or just shows a "loading" ref arrow/circle. I am unable to purchase data, check balances or do anything. Phoned Vodacom customer care who told me to reboot my phone and make sure my data was on (duh).



Like their website, the new app is a mess and basically useless.

Tried the website (which states they introduced 2-step verification since I last login a month or so ago).

Enter my credentials and is then met with the following screen:

Call the helpdesk again which asked my to try another browser (same result) and then to restart my laptop at which point I gave up.

Which phone are you trying the app on?
 
Please everyone here give that freaking vodapay app 1 star and complain. Maybe they will eventually let us use myvodacom again.

I am at the point where I now use USSD codes instead of installing that terrible app on my phone again.

Oh and report the app as threatening, maybe we can get google to remove the app from the playstore

I'd actually forgotten about this option and would have done this had I thought of it. I seem to recall there being limited options though vs. the app as far as data allocation goes?

voda.com/pwa if anyone wants USSD without having their device drop down to 3G.
 
The app is just "RUBBISH" wishing Google can remove this "trash" from the store.
