Hi Guys,

Be careful of a possible scam called www.voiplus.co.za ... I have been getting random e-mails from them to sign up for cheap calls.

I never heard about them before ... yet I am receiving newsletters which is unethical ... they say they comply with the Communication Act, so if I want to unsubscribe I must e-mail ... but when I do, I just get another e-mail at a different @dig...addic...co.za address.

I tried to phone the contact number that is there ... but no one answers ... so just watch out for them.

by the way, for the spam bots out there, and for anyone else who wants to know who they are, their e-mail addresses is [email protected]

Chow

Edit:

Ok, I got a reply from the guy after sending a slightly harsher e-mail to unsubscribe, and he said he would.

I've been getting a lot of these, too:

Hallo and may we wish you a very Happy Easter

If you, your family, or staff in your company, are currently making international calls, we can save you money! Please allow us to take a minute of your time to introduce you to a system that could save you a lot of money in the future.

South Africa --> United Kingdom - Now 28c per minute (reduced due to our high call volumes). France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, USA, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and many others - all at 35c per minute using our Talk Time product - landlines in some other countries, and cellphones generally, may cost more depending on their internal charges. No set-up charges or administration fees.

R100 = 285 minutes!

From land-lines or cell phones you just dial our national 0861 access number at the cost of a local call and our Talk Time product will recognize your phone number and allow you to either use one of your personal preset speed-dial numbers, or simply dial your overseas number, cellphone or landline, anywhere in the world. You don't need to enter long pin codes or even the number you wish to call! Stunning convenience.

Our other product - Talking Point - also works even more simply and may be preferred by some people/companies – the international part is FREE!. All you do is dial 084 198 0000 from any cell phone or land-line, wait for the voice prompt and then dial the complete international number (without the
00) you require - for example - simply dial 44 123 456 7890 and then the #
(hash) key for a number in the UK. There is no sign-up, no subscription, no waiting and no risk. It is a great way of saving yourself a lot of money when making international calls from South Africa.

Look at www.voiplus.co.za or call 011 621 4886 for more information or to register.

An interesting piece of news you might find useful. In our search for additional ways of offering you better service and saving your more money, we came across a new and very interesting product from a company called iCTel which looks like it could be, and increasingly become, a good way to save money on local and cellphone calls. Now we have no relationship with them at all but if you would like to give them a try and register with them, please use Voiplus as your sponsor - their website is http://www.ictel.co.za/31844.

Is this not in contradiction to the SA Communications Act? Isn't it illegal to e-mail someone using their public domain e-mail address, is it not considered spam?

Nope. They are allowed (AFAIK) to email you once. Then if you opt-out and they continue - S P A M.

But I need to go and double check my facts. Email them and ask them to unsubscribe *@diiigiiit@[email protected]@

Else, just block *@voiplus.co.za.

Unfortunately the relevant South African Law (Section 45 of the ECT Act) is largely ineffective against spam.

However they are in violation of Internet Solution's AUP and I would encourage you to lodge a complaint with them at abuse |a| is.co.za. The abuse guys at Internet Solutions are usually pretty good at stamping out this sort of thing.

I've been getting massive amounts of email from them as well on just about every email account I have.

Sent an email saying one more email and I report. Looks like they stopped for now.

Just heard back from the IS Abuse desk. If you guys don't make complaints then there is not much that they can do about Voiplus.
