Vox Telecom Fatpipe

I found mweb to be brilliant in all aspects except pricing.

As of late their shaping on premium accounts is something driving a lot of users away.

I know, because I am one of them. I came to Vox hoping for something better, but right now it's looking about the same really.

LOL ^^^^^. where have you been. Have you used your internet in the last two months?

Yeah.. Use. It daily and evything fine including 7ms ping to game server other day. Stream video every day...

I am using standard capped. Will switch to vox when my subscription ends next mo th.. In the meantime i save up vox data via rollover.

I don't want to flog the, "have you checked your exchange congestion" horse but have you?

Alternatively I'm quite prepared to IM you the account details of one my 6 fatpipe accounts for you to test! Just let me know...

I agree he should test another isp. Vox's price is probably worth the change anyway.

Thanks man, I don't mind the valid question.

The issue is that during the day Vox was performing just fine, then come late evening(i'm talking 10:30pm) Dota 2 had a ping of 800. At the same time I switched over to my current Mweb account and had ping of 33ms--no idea how exchange congestion caused that.

Then again, sameish time(after dota game-I was basically testing the line in all manner of activities) I tried youtube again and I had very poor speeds around 20kb-40kb(on a 2mbps line), whereas in the afternoon the speeds were brilliant. I then switched to an afrihost account I have(not mweb, since they are also shaping the **** out of youtube) I was able to stream at 200KBs no problem.

I've been thinking I've had exchange congestion for a while, but after the numerous complaints on MWeb about speeds and youtube I believe it's not--that and the telkom agent I spoke too said the exchange in my area is not congested.

I'm not saying it's terrible, but it's definitely not as "clean" and consistent a connection as I would like after a day of usage. We'll see how it performs when I am home tonight.

If similar things happen tonight I might take you up on the IM chat, so thank you for the offer.

@pansyfaust - Have to agree with sand_man here - I know from personal experience being told by other users that everything's fine when you're having problems is frustrating, but I wanted to echo that I doubt it's a VOX issue. In my personal experience, Fatpipe is 100% line speed all day every day on every protocol / service I throw at it.

On another note - for those Mikrotik owners amongst you - is there a cheapish Mikrotik device that can handle the scheduled account changes AND load balance two accounts?

Yeah. My bad. I remember you mentioning that yesterday. Fair enough. You done the testing so clearly there is an issue with VOX after hours. Let's see if there is any change tonight. If not the offer stands. Can let you test drive the bolt-on too if need be.

Wow, that seems far too cheap :)

I guess it's not a 1gbps backbone, but can the hardware handle load balancing 2x 10mbps accounts?
Yeah its only 100Mbps ports on the switch side, but it has better wifi than my RB751G.

It can definitely load balance 2x 10Mbps accounts, I don't see why it cant. Have a look at http://routerboard.com/RB941-2nD
Routing wise can do anything from 37.2Mbps to 394.8Mbps. I would suggest not overloading the CPU with encrypted VPNs ect, because that will kill your speed. Too many mangle rules might also kill speed.

If you keep it to routing it should work just fine.

You will have to do some routing and decide how you want to do the load balancing, as it won't be per packet, but rather per connection (PCC) load balancing. So to max out the 20Mbps you will need to do multiple threads.

Sounds like a fun project - thanks for the lead, will check it out.

Friend and me both on vox just dc'ed from local cs go servers and a local team speak server.

Took 10 minutes or so to reconnect. Leaving us with cooldowns for leaving a game.

Murphy's Law, some weird stuff is happening today. Had DNS issues this morning and evening, and when I redialed in the evening to see if that helped, could not authenticate on the account.

Hi All,

Anyone experiencing buffering on YouTube?

Have a 40Mbps line so the speed is there.

Then another question. Can one Bolt on products on the 100GB special that is currently running? If so where do one do that?

Thanks for advising. Were contemplating adding a 150GB or 200 GB Fat pipe package as well. Guess one can just buy that as another package?

They do have a 200gb fatpipe but @ R639 per month and a 150gb fatpipe @ R485.

You could always just add another 2 x 100gb fatpipe specials to your account @ R164 each per month...
