Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Really only 3 people had an opinion of this? I think this got buried under the DNS issue.

So what is the FUP based on? What data limit before you get throttled to those speeds?

unless im seeing wrong

Unless I'm missing something, I'm not seeing the advantage of this over fatpipe + bolt-on, unless you want to be downloading 24/7. Being throttled down to a lower line speed amounts to the same as shaping really.

I'll let the image speak for itself.

Look, it depends on when those FUP settings would kick in. And obviously pricing would be key.

On a 10mb line FUP1 at 300gb's, FUP2 at 500gb's and FUP3 at 600gb's? Price on this package? R499 excluding line rental, R799 including line rental?

EDIT: Like the idea of rate limiting based on usage but becomes complicated for your sales team to explain to customers. Although you would think customers needing an uncapped service would have a basic understanding of the dynamic nature of said account.

Soft cap limits (I can't release just yet... but very good limits in my opinion)

That would be 2 separate accounts.

I still believe there is a market for a fat pipe + bolt-on with more flexible peak time data allocation.

100gb fatpipe lite with bolt-on would clean up. Priced accordingly. Wouldn't expect to pay much less than R400 a month for such an account.

And rate limit both the 100gb and bolt-on portion to 2mb/4mb/8mb/10mb/20mb/40mb and price accordingly...

You aren't far off.

As far as the FUP, it will be transparent and posted on our website for all to see.

Shaping usually implies crap/blocked/wont work. A known line speed throttle means it will still work, but just slower.

Critical that! Ambiguous policy re FUP has been the downfall of many an ISP... I was quite generous with my data allocations. I originally thought FUP1 at 200gb, FUP2 at 400gb and FUP3 at 500gb.

My understanding is this would be rate limiting/throttling and not shaping at all! Implemented correctly, it's a more suitable and appropriate method of managing an account.

Makes sense as a better method of managing uncapped accounts. Hard throttles would definitely be more intuitive than wishy washy shaping descriptions.

Ok so let me see if i under stand this.
If i take a 8MB account with FUP1 and i only have a 4MB line , means i will be uncapped at full line at FUP1 slows line to 4096 . 50% my line speed when hitting FUP2 , and 25% line speed at FUP3?

What are the thresholds for FUP stages? so if i can stay in FUP1 i have uncapped account at full line speed?

Or am i way of the mark here?

That would work. Thresholds yet to be disclosed. We guesstimating for now...

Maybe relevant on the bolt-on thread? As this could perhaps replace the Fatpipe lite product for some people. I don't normally follow the Fatpipe thread because it is not relevant to me (on fatpipe lite).

But this could be an interesting concept, depending on the FUP levels. I have had a similar setup with a WISP before, and if it gives you a higher speed while you properly manage your data its great.

Ignoring the consumed usage for now; your understanding is correct.

At a certain "threshold", we will slow the speed down. If you didn't reach the FUP1 threshold, then you would be uncapped for the speed which you purchased.

You could have a 10Mbps DSL line, but only bought a 4Mbps uncapped account; in this scenario you'd run at 4Mbps until you reached FUP1 then we would slow your connection down mid-flight (no disconnect needed).

I hope this clears it up a bit.

Hmm ... Good point. I raised it here as there was a lot of momentum and involvement on the Fatpipe thread.

Should I rather share the enhancements of Fatpipe??? (if there we any to mention? MuAHaHAhahA)
