Vox Telecom Fatpipe

VDSL requires a VDSL capable modem (By requesting a VDSL upgrade, you commit yourself to buying a new modem if your present one doesn't support VDSL modulation)

According to VOX www.voxtelecom.co.za/adsl-lines

"To achieve best effort speeds with VDSL, the recommended router is a ZyXEL VMG1312 B series router for the 20Mbps and 40Mbps line speeds. The 'ADSL 2+' router will function but not at these speeds."

Well, no function going on here.

I'm ready to go to the shops tomorrow but computer mania have no VDSL modems in stock, incredible connection is re-locating with some temporary stall somewhere in the common area of the mall or something (probably no stock).. Only option is telkom selling some netgear modem (i'm fine with netgear, but the modem they have is not listed anywhere).

So I really don't know if it's a risk to just buy, but I can't go on like this.

Guys. Wrong forum I know, but I'm on my phone and can't look now for the correct thread - this thread was already open.

I've upgraded to 20Mbps (apparently VDSL) and when I got home... No internet. Called Telkom to find out and they say it's not syncing! I have a Netgear DGN2200V4 modem router - it's not VDSL so could it be I must just get a new modem router or is it more likely a line fault and I must first wait for them to maybe come check next week before I buy one?

I can't wait so long!

Hi,

There seems to be some issues with telkom regarding VDSL upgrades some places in the country.

I requested my 10mbps ADSL (Synced on ADSL2 modulation) to be upgraded to VDSL through Afrihost (line still through them)
About 30 min later, the line died. It came back online 2 days later...
It was now syncing on 8mbps on G.DMT. This is ADSL 1 modulation and 8mbps is the max.

Afrihost is still in the process of investigating along side telkom.
Tried resubmitting the upgrade request and what not...

Been a month... :/

Technically, if the DSLAM is capable, VDSL should fall back to ADSL2+ / ADSL 2 if you are too far from the exchange as ADSL has better long distance speeds than VDSL.

I know many people that use ADSL2+ routers for VDSL - but be aware, you will be limited to ADSL2+ speeds - which mostly means you will not get the 2mbps upload speed given by 20mbps VDSL, you will be limited to 1mbps.

Well, this morning no internet. Went hunting for a VDSL modem, but no one had. I avoided Telkom who have stock of a Netgear one not listed anywhere and the queue was all the way outside the store. So I decided I'd order one from webafrica or something. But now I get home and I see my internet LED lights are finally on again and have gone green!

So internet working. Speedtest is giving me 16Mbps down and 0.89Mbps up. So, if I'm truly on VDSL I guess a new modem might be in order for the upload speed. But at least now I don't have to rush.

I'm sorry I had to use this thread, but thanks for all your help!

oh great... weekend time and I'm limited back to 2 megs on a 10 meg line.. vox wtf!!!!

Vox dead again!!! Router solid at 10.2 Mbps. Saix giving ping of 328 and download of 0.91 mbps

VOX support called me back after I asked to speak to an engineer. The woman was adamant that the problem was with me, and could not accept that it must be a VOX issue when I said other ISP's are flawless. The whole manner in which she treated me as a paying customer left a very sour taste in my mouth. Going to use up as much data as I can, and then move on.

What is going on with Vox. Got a 10 meg line and everything buffering. This is like Afrihost all over again

Absolutely pathetic speeds from VOX today. And no reply from their online support oke. "Voxy". Pathetic

Good evening GGG

Could you send me your account number so we can get a service engineer to investigate.

Regards,
Voxy

Seems to be an issue with connection here as well since 9pm.
Just verified with a buddy who is also experiencing same issues.

Anyone else?
