Vulacom

Yeah want to find out more about Vulacom and what other areas they are planning in the future since my area is also under CAP/GAP.

I didn't see you there... Did you attend?

Was a bit of a damp squib tbh...

My main concern is that Vulacom is a mickey mouse operator with little to no market presence.

From what I could understand they still waiting on ICASA accreditation!

Anyway, not likely to see fibre till next year July.

Couldn't make it. Wife was sick and I also wasn't feeling great :( agh that sucks. I wonder why CAP partnered with them.

From what I can gather the main reason is cost for CAP's camera network they rolling out in the suburbs.

Where other operators were wanting anywhere from R500-R800 per month per camera, Vulacom are charging them nothing.

Guess we'll see if Vulacom are serious or just blowing hot air.

my gut tells me it was the right call.
correct about still waiting for accreditation, but thats for the SPV, its created for the purpose of nora fibre. From what I read they actually have a very good pedigree.

for me it was a non negotiable, security is as important to me as fast internet - this is what these guys do.

any new developments since the last meeting?

None that are being advertised or announced, no.

I got a general mail about 2 weeks ago requesting home owners, who would be interested in allowing Vulacom to erect their poles for hanging fibre off of. I offered mine but since then have heard nothing.

Their website remains as it did at launch on the 23/9/2015.

Dear residents of Norwood, Orchards, Cheltondale and The Gardens,

We hosted a successful public meeting on the FTTH initiative on Wednesday 4 November. Attached find a summarised version of the presentation.

It is vital to register your interest – streets with the greatest concentration of interest will be prioritised for rollout. Do this at: http://www.vulacom.com/#how-to-get-fibre

The construction of poles within residential premises will help us to speed up rollout. This involves the following:
- Either a pole planting excavation machine will be used or a suitable hole will be dug inside the property.
- If the minimum depth was not achieved concrete will be casted to ensure the integrity and durability of the pole.
- In the event that the pole could not be installed in soil the sufficient surface reinstatement will be conducted to its original or better state.
- Afterwards the cable stringing team will install the fibre into the premises.
- Access build team will install aerial fibre hook on the structure
- Aerial fibre will be extended from the main run to the resident’s house and enter the through the cantilever/overhang of the roof.
- The fibre cable will then be extended to the preferred point of termination.
- Here the fibre termination box will be mounted.
- Finally the splicing team will terminate and test the fibre.
If you are willing to allow the installation of a pole on your property, please contact Alfie Martins on [email protected]

If you have any questions relating to the rollout, please contact Alfie Martins on [email protected]

Kind regards,

i doubt the coj will give them permission before the end of the year.
but it would be nice to get updates from the ISP negotiations so we know what to start budgeting for in 2016 - also with isp pricing they can use the down time to start canvassing people

Significant progress have been made with wayleave approvals and we are only awaiting approval from two more departments before final approval from the Johannesburg Roads Agency can be given.

We expect final approvals by for Johannesburg Water and Sasol by 11 December before these departments close down for the Christmas break, or by the 11th of January when they re-open for the New Year. Final and overall JRA approval is expected soon after the last two approvals above.

We therefore expect to start with deployment by the end of January 2016 and is committed to pass all homes and businesses in the NORA precinct by 31 July 2016. Homes and businesses will be connected as they are “passed” and once they have applied for services. To date, close to 120 NORA stakeholders have submitted the “how to get fibre” section on the website and more applications and streaming in daily! The deployment of fibre will where ever possible follow routes to prioritise and accommodate these applicants.

We aim to launch ISP information once wayleave approvals have been finalised and once we have a definite date of project kick-off! We will keep you all posted and this regard and wish you a peaceful and joyous festive break!

11th of jan.
Lets hope that this starts picking up momentum from now. I already see that Fibrehoods have started stringing cables this year already

Not holding my breath.

I first read it as vulvacom :D

Well, it's run by a bunch of c unts so.... :p I'm being incredibly vulgar. Apologies.

Are you sure its not vumatel ?

https://vumatel.co.za/

I wish it was Vumatel. They well established players in the fibre industry with a proven track record, but no, definitely Vulacom.
