Vuma Reach Phoenix Thread

Cape Town VumaReach user here.... its do as you please uncapped unthrottled 24/7 as @AfriNatic says.

I'd advise you guys to get your own router if you can and run it off the Huawei GPON. The Huawei limits the amount of wifi devices and only has single band wifi. For dual band and freedom of more wifi connected devices there's many cost effective router choices pending budget.
Any disadvantages of two routers you have come across so far?

Basically just limited amount of wireless devices and single band, otherwise the GPON is actually a very nice device.

I was spoilt my Asus dsl ac52u which luckily had a WAN port and hooked it up to the GPON. Switched off wireless on GPON and it basically just acts as and ONT.

The Asus has nice features like QOS and freedom to create Guests or kids etc wireless network which you can assign a certain amount of throughput. Just more creature comforts and freedom to setup your network to your liking.

Man EU ping is important to me, what Afrihost can offer us Kzn people?
Hi,

Currently via JHB as most content providers only peer in JHB and CPT and JHB is only 11-12ms away so it makes sense latency wise to go via JHB.

I know @ghostbunny has Pure DSL with us in KZN and the latency will be slightly better over fibre to what they currently get so maybe they can offer some trace routes?

We have AWS direct connect in JHB so you should be able to get like ~145-150ms to Fortnite servers and AWS hosted services in Bahrain which is also quite nice.

Site shows caneside and forestheaven are live, go go go go guys
Order order order order
Yeah pre order? Is it really that long of a wait for Vuma to come and install the CPE or is it something ISP's are using to hype potential clients up? They installed those little white boxes outside my house this evening so I am kinda chuffed.

I ignored the pre-order offer and ended up waiting 2 weeks for Vuma to manually add my address, plus 3 weeks for install, and another 3 days for someone to show up with a splicer. On the plus side activation took 2 min.

When you apply on our website we will do everything for you. You signup we place the order and email you a payfast payment link. Once paid Vumatel does the installation and once that is done you are up and running.

With Vuma Reach the fibre ONT is the router as well where you can make changes to wifi name and password or from your vuma reach portal that we give you access to.
So my area is still listed as a non fibre area on the Afrihost site, however there is an option on the site thats ask's if you are sure that fibre is available in your area, I selected yes. I navigate to the Vuma reach icon and select the 40/10mbps line option. Am I able to pre order fibre this way? I see that I don't have to pay for the product this month but next month it will be R529. Will I be charged from next month even though I may not have been connected as yet or will I be charged pro rata when I eventually do get connected?

Yes you can.

With Vuma Reach you do not add any payment details to our system. The system places an order and sends you the payment link via email.

When first signing up the full amount of which ever package you are taking is due for example R399 for the 20/10 and R529 for the 40/10. This is a full months service for the month after you get activated. The pro rata amount from the date of activation to the end of the month will be billed at the end of the activation month.

I hope this makes sense. ;)

Hello hello, would be glad to help. Drop me an ip address and I'll run a ping plotter. I know we get around 170 to blizzard Paris.

So Caneside area has not had the addresses loaded properly. We have a Vuma Dev ticket open to fix this issue as none of the addresses in this area is showing up and the addresses when doing an address search still shows awaiting pop completion.

Once this has been fixed we can let the order flow in ;)

The portal gets updated every day so we are hopeful that it will be updated and be sorted out tomorrow.

Cool thanks for the updates!

Should I worry about contention ratios in the least? There was a time I thought that fibre had no contention, turns out I was wrong. I am getting 0.09Mb/s upload at work to Stanmore tower via MyVoip. Sometimes I do get around 4Mb/s upload but I need a guaranteed QoS of 3Mb/s upload.

VumaReach packages are cheaper than the other Vuma fibre packages in other areas, but how compromised is it especially regarding upload contention?

Not that I know of. The CPT peeps havent complained about slow speeds or congestion yet. Theres a reason why they limit our choices to a max of 40mbps. Its to preserve the network so that theres no congestion. Once they upgrade the hardware a bit more, im pretty sure we can get 100meg lines in the near future
