VW recalls Polo

I have the 2yr non wear and tear plan (I forget the technical term they give it) which means if a non-wear and tear part goes before 2 yrs, they are supposed to replace it free of charge. This was an additional R3k approx. If there's a leak in the aircon system, which I'm sure there is but they "can't find it", I'm guessing that's their way of telling me they can't be bothered to do labour for nothing? I consider that non wear and tear but I'm going in with the thought that I'm going to have to fight them on this one. What aircon system runs empty after one month except if there's a leak? No amount of aircon "abuse" could ever do that. :D

Take it to Bosch and let them regas it with the stuff that has the dye in that they use on newly fitted or refitted systems. If it leaks it will show up under that funky UV test light they use and you can then go show Lindsay Sucker this.

You see i do love Opel but i just can't afford them anymore. I feel they are pricing themselves out of the market. The new Opel Corsa for instance is just ridiculously priced. I love the new look but don't think it warrants the price as the engine isn't wonderful. Not many options either. You can either have a 1.3 or a 1.4. That dissapoints me!

Stay away from GM their aftersales service is diabolical. I've been an Opel fan since the early 90's but my experiences with them over the last three or four years have ensured that I won't be buying another one any time soon

If you read my post (#40) you will see that some people get excellent service from GM. But since the warrenty expired on my car I have it serviced at a Bosch auto electrical and mechanical service center. They are independant and you get excellent service from them.
 
found someone that took their car in...

ok...found on the wheels24 website under the comments that a guy took his car in yesterday to have the turbo replaced, he say that in 1st gear he can feel a difference (not as much boost), but in the rest of the gears the boost kicks in a little bit later but the pull is still as intense...overall he says he has no complaints

so this is good news.....i think :confused:

anycase, taking my car for a dyno run tomorrow, will still be good to know what the figures of my baby are....will keep you guys updated.

any updates from your side?

you know, a little less boost in first wont be too bad, because it pulls like crazy in 1st, a little more progressive would make it a bit smoother in traffic. as long as it still pulls like a train in the other gears. but the idea of a diesel is not to rev it , hence the high torque at low rpm making it more efficient. i hope fuel economy doesnt get worse after the swap/upgrade/fix etc.

Ive heard they giving new software, less power in first gear but alot more in the other gears and higher up in the rev range...
No biggie.
First gear used to pull like hell!!! Now not so much.

PS: Do not go to VW in Midrand, some guy took his their for the turbo recall and it got stolen!!:eek::(
 
anyone have any feedback?
rather not take the car in if it is going to be any slower ( no offense to anyone but imo it already feels pretty sluggish sometimes)

ke? What do you drive? If you're going to say the 1.9TDISL, I'd say your turbo has already blown! :D The only place I find this car to be pretty sluggish is over 200kph! :p

It is nippy for a diesel supermini but it is very far away from fast as some people describe it. yes i do own a 1.9tdi 96kw.
Didn't someone say that they were gonna do a before and after dyno?

hi there, sorry i've been away for such a long time, here is the latest update, been to SAC for a dyno the friday morning and i was not happy with the setup of their dyno so i cancelled the run (yes, i know...i am very full of sh*t when it comes to my car :) ) and then i did a lot of readin on all the forums and here is the conclusion that i have made, i'll attach all the links, very interesting read.

The general feeling is that the guys that had their turbo's replaced are very happy, they love how the car drive now, one guy had a dyno done afterwards and the power was a bit more. one guy did a speed test and on the same stretch he actually were 15 km\h faster at the same point.

i'm taking my car in next week as i have a trip down to KZN and want to save the new turbo the exstra 1000km's.

One of my friends had his turbo's replaced and he is also very happy.

Anycase, hope you enjoy the read and by the way, a lot of people have mod chips on their polo 1.9 s/l and it makes crazy figures, on guy down in cape town pushes out 128kw and 470 nM of torque, runs the 1/4 mile in 14.8 seconds...that is quick :)

I have been following this thread with interest as I also have a 1.9 s/l and thus have made an appointment for my car next Thursday for an inspection. I'm on 123,000kms and havent had any problems with my cars turbo. I must say that I'm not a "hell" driver so the turbo hasn't taken that much strain. I really hope they replace my turbo aswell as upgrade the software. Will keep the forumites posted on what my experience is. From what I have googled most people gave positive feedback on the new turbo/software, but will have to experience it for myself. Laters ;)
 
Wife had her 2005 TDi's turbo replaced with 69000KM on the clock. No problems up to the replacement.

I've driven it afterward and to be honest, I can't feel any difference whatsoever, in any gear. No difference in turbo sounds or anything. Boost still starts coming in at about 1500RPM and it really starts pulling at 1700+. If anything, it doesn't seem to run out of breath as quickly when you start going past 4000RPM.

From what I can see after removing the engine cover, the turbo is new, together with the plumbing to and from it. The intercooler is still the same (not even the fins were cleaned). The turbo seems to be another make, though. I can't make it out from the angle it sits, but it is definitely not a Garrett (Garrett GT1749V - factory) since the Garrett name was visibly embossed on the compressor housing.
 
Any chance they want to recall my 98 1.4 classic?
Not that I'd give it back. Its got 235000km on the clock and doesn't even use oil!
 
So my car went in today for its turbo inspection. Just had a call from to say that they have ordered my new turbo as it needs replacing! Woohoo! I havent had any problems with my turbo in the past (on 125 000kms) but I'm gr8ful that they gonna replace it anyways. Will post my post-op experience here soon. :D Not expecting a faster car, but happy that I wont have any future probs.
