Yeah, but you'll see the guys driving these to cape town.
I dunno about cars like these. SA isn't built for city cars.

I'm asked ng some really silly questions here,
So safety glass then, not plate glass?
So won't shatter? Even if you slam it quite firmly?
What if something long is protruding?
Like a ski pole, will it just break, or shatter?
Also as everything is "glued" onto the tailgate
Won't it become hard to open afterwards?
I mean with a normal tailgate, back window can shatter,
But still metal that holds everything together,
In this, if the glass breaks, okay it stay together,
But the handle and mounting to the frame can't that fall off?
Or am I just being paranoid here
Nice, I approve of your VW![]()
No definitely agree with you,
I'm really paranoid,
But I'm always wondering
why has this all glass tailgate not Caught on previously?
Only recently has cars started coming with this new invention
What's the real reason? Save weight?
Or the fact that accidents can happen and they can count on a steady supply of specialist glass sold by them only at exorbitant prices?
Also the fact that you MUST get it fixed if it breaks, as its a security risk and nobody makes aftermarket glass for it......
But that's my little conspiracy bird singing in my head.....
Have a look at all the Up! threads, you will see it is one of the few VW cars I like, in fact I like it a lot. The reason is simple - it is lives up to the name Volkswagen - this is a wagen for the volk.Wait. What?

Just a pity VWSA won't bring the 5 door Up! as that would steal more buyers from the dead horse being flogged off as a Vivo.
It's a design thing. Aesthetically, it looks nice without the metal framework. It "caught on now" as you put it, cause it requires newly developed tech to bond the glass in a structurally integral way.
And the all glass is heavier than any non all glass idea currently.
The rest is the voices in your head.
Do agree with the fact it looks nice, heavier, that's strange?
Also easier when reversing, you can see more out the back then you could otherwise,
My issue is its longevity, and when on owner number 3 without a warranty, how it holds up?
I mean Chrysler put plastic windows in its minivans a while back, just to see how they hold up, and didn't go toward with it afterwards....
Maybe I'm seeing a issue, where there doesn't exist one (at least now)
Time will tell I suppose.....
Nice, I approve of your VW
Enjoy!
Yoh! Roux even likes it. That's the biggest compliment this car has received yet!

Those that have been around for a while will know there are some things VW that I am very fond of. Like their TSI engines and some of the outrageous concept cars they have made (Lupo 3L, W12 Coupe, XL1). My first car was a 2.1i Microbus and I would love to see a Oettinger Caravelle 3.2 again, last time was in the previous millennium.Haven't seen the other threads, I mean mostly all I see is you climbing in to any VW thread to bash them, and as such I am still shocked.
So what you are saying, is that the vivo is the new (old) citi golf?
It is the only model they build, the rest are all imported. Guess who is making a pretty penny...
wtf are you on about? Glass is glass. It can last 1000's of years. The only issue is when you smash it... but then all cars have this problem then don't they?
If it breaks, insurance will replace.
but what happens when the warrenty expires, and how long lasting is this glass tailgate idea?
first crack and you need to have it replaced at great expense,
yes insurance will pay out after a fight to end all fights.......
especially if as I mentioned its partially due to you slamming it closed...... and hitting something......
not so simple fitting a glass tailgate that can smash so easily.
maybe Im completely paranoid but I still think its a liability,
